I have had my JZA70 for 3 years now but she has been off the road for a year and a half. I bought it bone stock from a local guy for 4k. on the fatefull day that i broke her i was showinging off to a mate as i left his house. I procceded to put her in drive (yes she was factory auto), placed my left foot firm on the brake and floored it, leaving 2 black lines about 100metres down the road. As i was driving home i noticed the temp gauge went into the critical "I better shut this bitch down" zone, and parked up. After a quick inspection i determined i had a BHG and thought to myself "this aint a 7m, wtf". over the next few days i drove her to and from work and quickly relised i need to get this girl off the road so thats what i did. A couple of weeks later i started pulling bits off so i could get the head off, then i encounted the twin turbo setup, Holy F**K what a pain in the ass, i swore so much and lost soo much skin off my knuckles, i made the desicion there and then that those twins can get F#$%^D they are not going back on "i will just do a simple single turbo conversion, no drama" Hahaha i lied to myself. So anyway after 3 attemps of getting the twins off, finally i had success and got the head off too. You can not imagine the joy i had when i discovered i was correct in my diagnosis of having a BHG after wrestling with the twins. So my plan was to replace the head gasket and do a simple single turbo conversion. Well i can say now after a year and a half i have lost control of the build and spent far too much money, shit has gotten out of hand and there is no support for people like us so i have to see it through. The stress it has put on myself and my very understanding girlfriend Angelique (eye candy coming soon) has been quite immence and there have been lots of sleepless night, lots of being completely broke, lots of "what did you spend $1000 on babe?" "ummmmm" and lots of longing to have the a70 back on the road. Its not over yet, she is still work in progress, thats why i have decided to create this blog. This is my first post on Supramania but i have been lurking here for quite some time now, and its been a great resource for my research, so thanks you to all the anon contributors. I will update this in a time line up to present on how the car is currently sitting. First pictures are of how she was when i got here plus afew from the owner before me.

Now that you have the background story i will tell you how things have progressed and the journey that i have undertaken. First thing i did when i got the a70 was think what kind of wheel style i wanted as the 17x8 Altezza wheels werent really doing it for me as the offset was all wrong and i was just generally disapointed in them so i spent alot of time searching the forums and came across the wheel fitment guide on this forum. My orginal impulse was to go for Work miester sp1s with lots of dish and low offset but my budget wouldn't allow it so i kept looking. Eventually i came across some Rota GTR-D's (P45)on a local auction site in a staggered 18x10 and 18x12 fitment and decided they were the ones. I handed over close to 2g cash and they turned up at my door a couple of days later

I fell in love and imagined a much better look for them so decided to start stripping the paint on them and get them back to there original alloy. Oh boy was in for a mission, after stripping the first one, it revealed the casting and maching marks that i would have to sand out to get the finish i wanted, so starting with 240 grit sandpaper and working my way all the way upto 2000 grit i got it to a state i was happy with. after adding some metal polish i couldnt believe how good it came out. I still have 3 more to polish up but this is not my priority right now.

The wheels didnt end up on the car for nearly 2 years after i purchased them as the laws in New Zealand require a minimum of a 315/30/18 tire which i wasnt aware of at the start, so i started looking but the tires available had a price tag of $1400 each which was waaay more than i was thinking when i originally purchased the wheels, so the wheels sat for a loooong time, taunting me :aigo:

With the head off the 1jz, i talked to my Engine builder friend Damian, and had discussions about what parts i need to get so he could do the HG. We decided it was a good idea to do the cambelt, tentioners and water pump and that was the plan until all of a sudden i was moving to another town to start a new job, so the supra got loaded onto a truck and got transported to it new home 140kms away. The car sat dormant for about 2 months until i talked to damian again and we decided to do a complete rebuild on the engine, so once again it was back on a transported back to my hometown and ended sitting at damians house while we started planning the parts i was going to purchase for the rebuild. Well as i was in the frame of mind of spending money, i was looking through the local clasifieds and a 1jz and w58 package came up for sale. It had 7000kms on it with reciepts from a rebuild 2 years prior and it included some goodies. I deposited 5k into the guys account and a week later went and picked up my new package from the local freight company and trailored it back to damians house. The package included a 1jz, standard internals with acl race series bearings, arp, rod, main and head studs, hks metal hg and 2jz waterpump that eliminated the hydrolic radiator fan. 2jz 440 cc inj, custom intake manifold, 70mm throttle body, stainless exhaust manifold, .5ar t3/t4, 44mm wategate, 3" dump pipe, wasted spark setup, Link g3 standalone ems, loom, exedy hd clutch kit, remote shift w58, 2jz bellousing and various other bits, with a dyno sheet of 250kw at a rev limit of 5k on a run in tune.

So now the plan was to reassemble the old engine with a new head gasket, cambelt, waterpump and sell it on.

[THUMB]http://imageshack.com/a/img843/4760/ha4j.jpg[/THUMB]

I managed to sell it for 2k which meant my new setup only owed me 3k with a manual gbox, i was stocked.

The next mission was to get the remote shift w58 tail housing and selector rod swapped over so i could instal it in the car. I spent along time trying to find someone willing to sell me the parts but eventually i came across a guy in my home town called Tony who is known to work on and modify W and R series boxes, and he had the bits i needed. He pulled the gearbox down, had a look, chucked some new bearings and seals in, put back together and swapped tailhousing over for me. It cost me the remote tailhousing and shifter assembly. I managed to get back down to my home town and after about 4 months of the engine package sitting, we put it in the engine bay.

Managed to pick up and intercooler and koyo radiator

[THUMB]http://imageshack.com/a/img835/6411/z3h8.jpg[/THUMB]

to my horror, the exhaust manifold didnt fit as the wastgate was hitting the engine mount and the custom intake manifold didnt fit either :wtf: , i was so disapointed. Found out later the engine had been setup in a toyota hilux and the engine mounts had been bolted forward on the block to fit in the hilux. Sooo was time to start thinking about my next move, which didnt come till months later :icon_evil

Bringing the build up to august 2013, i decided i had waited long enough for the wheels to be lying around "taunting' me, i needed tyres. As 315/30/18s were my minimum legal option for certification in New Zealand for my 18x12s, i started calling around for the specific tire size with the best quote being around the $1400 mark per tyre for michelin's or pirelli's (basically Porche tyres) whoa whoa whoa, time to look at importing. Someone recommended tirerack.com in the USA, so i contacted Jonas and he told me all the right things with an amazing price and i ended up importing 2x BF Goodrich gforce rivals for less than one tyre here in New Zealand.

At the same time i ordered 240z flares from the Zstore which showed up first, i had to check them out on the car when they turned up

In late 2013 i moved back to my home town and got closer to the supra again and had alot more time with her, so after my big let down with my manifolds not fitting, i went on a bit of a spending spree and thought i should beef up fueling system and bought a new intake manifold, 100MM throttle body, 650cc injectors, fuel rail kit and walbro fuel pump and aeromotive fpr and guage.
I also ditched the t3/t4 and cheap wastegate and decided on 44mm tial wastegate and a Steve Murch built Holset HRC35/2, similar to super HX35 but alot of R&D has gone into these and is rated at 680hp with fast spool and should be very aggressive coming on boost.

Setback on intake manifold number 2. i could have cried. went to put the "1jz" manifold on the car the engine in the can and it was too big for the engine bay. Maybe it was designed for a soarer but it wasnt good news. I have been waiting for about 7 months for the manifold to be cut down so i can fit it, but my mate has been busy so has been on the back burner. finaly this week, i got it back, cut down and tacked to see if its going to be right. with it fitted up i ran into a clearence problem with the power sterring feed but thats an easy fix. so i have been spending the last week, cleaning engine bay, removing unessacary relays, ignitors etc and delooming the engine bay and relocating the fuse box. Pulled engine back out and detailed it a bit. so far block is black and im unsure of the colour scheme for the engine. the engine bay will be gloss black but the engine im unsure if im going red and black or polished and black, hard decision. Finally with the manifolds on i can dummy setup everything and wire it up before i pull it all out again to paint engine bay. anyway, this bring me up to date with the current progress of the build, i should build some momentum now and hopefully its smooth sailing from here.

I better mention im waiting for my new VIS carbon fibre hood to show up by tuesday. it was imported by the seller from the USA and was never fitted to his car. still needs to be drilled out where it bolts to the hinges.
As far as im aware i will be the only person in New Zealand to own one, as they cost upwards of $1500 to import, so its a bit of a turnoff. I managed to get for a good price and with the raised cowel and the flares it should look pretty agressive from the front. also have my clear park/signal lights and lazy eye kit waiting to be installed

fah, fah away
yeah, you have extremely good taste with the body intentions of the car. I would do basically the exact same things you are doing to the exterior if I had an unlimited budget. The engine choice is meh lol just kidding :p

Good luck with the rest. Looking forward to a new screen saver...

Thank you, i can't take all the credit for my vision, like many others, i was influenced by garagefujimoto's original build that has been made redundent. There are rumors he has started a new build. After i came across it on MotorMavens i was inspired to do something similar. I still need to import afew parts from shine auto, which will be front airdam, airguide, lip, endcaps and diffuser. i havnt decided whether i will run a whaletale or the new rocket bunny style spoiler by jarvis yet but with shipping and duties all this will amount to around 2500-3k so will be a while away yet.

My inspiration :)

Its not going to be a problem, its just one of those niggly little things that needs to get done. My friend Nick who is an engineer took the fitting away 2 nights ago and is going to drill and tap it and add a 90deg bend in it, so i should probably have it back by the end of the weekend

Its 2:53am and i've only just got out of the garage, im determined to get this car on the road so i have to keep the pressure on myself. Today has been about doing dummy set ups.

Im thinking i will setup my fuel pressure reg on the end of the fuel rail. What do you guys think of this in a practical/functional sense?
