'88 vs '89 Steering Column Switch Tree=Interchangeable?

Yes, they are interchangable, but the slipring has an extra wire on the 89. Easiest way is to grab an 89 steering wheel as well, but the slipring from the 88 can be put on the 89 combination switch as well.

So, does this mean that a steering column switch tree from an '89 can be used on an '88? If so, anything about the slip ring that needs to be addressed in this application? Thanks mucho for your expertise in this matter!
