Today I replaced the water pump. Now the cooling system doesn't leak or take in air bubbles. Woot!! Fixed the driver's seat a while back.
Tranny still has a slip from 2k-3k rpm in second (really annoying), but the rest of the drive range is all good. Power steering still leaks too. I'm tempted to just remove the belt for now and wait until my swap is done to worry about mending the leak. I am almost positive its the high pressure line.
But... on the good side, the engine is healthy as can be. Pulls just like it should (still haven't gone WOT on it yet, still breaking it in), gets ~4psi of boost at ~75% throttle and has no problem doing 85mph at low throttle. A full rebuild works wonders on a 7M.
Turbo had minimal play and seems to be in great shape. Car doesn't smoke one iota.Things left to fix:
Gas gauge sender. Gauge is stuck in one spot.
Tranny. Slippage is no good.
Power steering leak.
Brake bulb holder is weird for one bulb.
Once those are done, it'll be one hell of a clean mk3.
how much did the full rebuild cost? u did it yourself right? what bout machine work? how much to do the block? im looking into it to do mine. my high press. line is also leaking. only thing that dont leak on my car is the dam a/c and my compresser quit working lol.

Rebuild wasn't too much. Just gaskets, hoses, and a little machine work. Came out to about 800 total I think for all parts and machining. When you do it yourself it's really not expensive provided you're starting with a clean block and know what the hell you're doing. It was a completely stock rebuild. I don't plan to do anything with the car so stock is all good with me.
UPDATE!!! 5 speed tranny installed and running. Was going to pull an auto from a junkyard car, but it was bad, so instead pulled a 5 speed w58 and all the parts for a swap from another car. Since I'm staying stock, the w58 is perfectly fine. It's installed and running and doesn't slip or anything. Grabs just fine and the car finally MOVES!!!
Now to start on my baby, the black NA with over 300K!!
Rebuilt steering rack on it's way and a thorough cleaning and this baby will be up for sale! The car needs new shocks and could use new tires but it's a very clean/stock example of a mk3. It's been my daily driver for the last few months and never let me down (except for a battery cable that came undone....).

Just read your entire build and it seemed like you got the car and rebuilt it all in one day! LOL. That was, until I noticed the gap in between dates/post hahaha. Seems like you make some fast ass progress, if you had my Supra it'd probably be running by now haha. Well, nice work and post those pics!
Glad your rebuild turned out so well. Lol my machinist seemed to leave my valve tolerances a little loose and im still chasing a slight oil leak. I think its the bolt that plugs an oil passage used for the NA motors. Did you shim your oil pump?

I did not shim the oil pump. This is a stock rebuild and I just wanted her back up and running. I honestly didn't know enough about the oil pump shim to do it until I did my black car a few months after this one was done.87mk111;1629760 said:

Pics soon! The rack should be in my garage tomorrow. Maybe not installed by then, but probably wednesday. Then I want to clean up the brakes, swap over a known good radiator and hopefully have that all done by the end of this weekend! I can't wait to clean this thing up. When I bought it, I was picturing it fully detailed and looking like new and sadly I haven't had the opportunity since I bought it.
Honestly, I was glad to have the oil pressure from the shim. But I think that with us living in the cold climate and trying to DD our cars, it would be a disaster to have our oil flowing all the time through the cooler. Without a complete oil make over I think it was a good idea to keep it stock.

Congrats! It's making me remind myself to be patient on my third swap... I really need to stop doing this. lol Next comes the MR2's new 5sfte once the Supra motor is DD'able.

i would most def have the block honed and re ring the pistons and have a local machine shop pressure test the block and head on it to make sure you dont have any cracks or major deterioration from coolant setting in it for the last 8 years

You're a little late on the advice, lol. Engine was installed months ago. block was honed, new rings, head resurfaced and checked out, the block and head weren't perfect in the passages but were just fine. Car has about 2k miles on rebuild if I remember right.
New bearings, rings, OEM HG torqued to 75 ft-lbs, all new seals, painted block, polished crank... nothing fancy, just a fresh stock rebuild.
I got the steering rack today, will try to install in the next few days, but we'll see how that goes...

Well i sold this car a few months ago... found it on craigslist today with "light rod knock". I knew the owner was going to abuse it. He drove the snot out of it on our test drive and was so excited to have a fast turbo car. Not to mention I'm pretty sure he was 17-18 years old.
I drove that thing for over 3500 flawless miles after the FULL rebuild and it purred. He owns it for a little over a month and kills the new motor. Makes me sad. I hope it ends up with a good home and someone who WON'T destroy it. It's too clean to be abused...
have a 88 mk3 i picked up a couple months ago. car is bone stock, new front brakes, shocks needs to be replaced. this is one of the best looking mk3's ive ever seen. only prob is a couple weeks ago it delevoped rod knock. its fairly quite so i belive it could be fixed for cheap. im looking to trade for a wrx,e30, or watever you got and of course an mk3. i still owe 4g on the car so i cant go cheaper then that on the price. the car also has the W58 tranny and is a targa top

Assuming it does, in fact, have rod knock... I would gladly take it for 2000. That'd give me enough wiggle room to replace the shocks, replace bearings, maybe crank work, aftermarket clutch. God, then it would be a great mk3. I miss having two good running Supras just waiting to be driven, lol. So spoiled I was! Once with the white 89 turbo and once with this maroon 88.
I think's its hilarious he's asking what I got for it even after the rod knock, lol.
