As my 88 engines knocks so hard, I decided to get another engine just to get moving forward with build.
Enter CanadianLurch, who is doing the 1J swap to his clean 87 7MGTE. My good fortune he was willing to unload his engine to me complete from
stock air box to chrome tipped exhaust including stock IC (only thing missing was the engine oil cooler).
Finally got to tear down engine yesterday, and am quite happy with what
I have. As this engine was suppose to have been rebuilt about 80 000 kms
before Lurch bought the car (or he drove it that long after purchase). The
only concern he had was a slight tick. As I never herd it run I took his word on that.
Well no BHG, no RN. All surfaces look strait and true, and by golly there is
noway that head is 21 years old.:icon_bigg
I found some derbs in the pan and some stuck in the pickup.
Also seen wear pattern on exhaust drive gear cam. Will be getting new
cams so no prob. Just wonder what caused it? The cpu is not that hard
to drive.
Will discuse what my goals are in next post. Much to clean.:icon_bigg muzy

That's really wierd about the cps drive gear wear. It's not even on the drive side of the teeth. Does the cps gear have the same wear pattern?

Muzy,

It will be interesting to see your build. I know that you have some pretty big plans in store. Keep us updated, I'm especially interested to see a local get built up!

Can't wait to see it.

Well been pretty slow, finally got block, crank, head, rods+pistons off to
machine shop today. Am using precise engine rebuilders in Calgary. Have
heard good results from them. So I will trust.
Hope to hear back soon as then I will order pistons (probs I think) good
value eh Doward? Oh and good rep. as well. :icon_bigg
Will get rods reconditioned and we will put ARP rod bolts in. As the originals have a minimum of 4 assembles on them all ready. Over kill I know, but was going to spring for new ones anyways. Might as well be
ARP. As I have ARP head and main studs already.
My torque plate is also there thank you to suprarich at SIP.
Will be going MHG, will wait for all machining to be competed before
ordering.
264 cams are here and waiting thank you Zazzn group buy.
Tick-To ck, weather is almost warm enough to work on sup.
So providing my wallet dose not collapse things will progress a little
steadier.
BTW. Have no goal on hp/torque. It will be what it is.
Next year :naughty: Muzy
