Okay my question is is there anyway to mod the 88 supra wiring harness to work on the 90 shell or body? What are the differences in them, and are they really that big?

I have read on all the forums and right ups on this swap, and everyone says to get a wiring harness for your year car.

Thanks in advanced!

Which engine harness are you talking about. If its an 88 engine harness you will need the yellow plug ecu. If its an 90 plus you will need grey plug ecu

Okay I have a complete 88 7mgte with harness and ecu
I want to drop that engine in my 90 NA car
The question is that supposably the harness from the 88 is different from the 90?

Yes the harness will be different. You would have to adapt the chassis harness to that ECU. If you have the plugs off of the '88, it could be done, but if not... Probably easier to get a '90 ECU and wiring harness.

Sell your 88 ecu and harness and find a 89+ harness and ecu. Much much much easier and no hack job required

It's easy if you get the 89+ ecu/harness everything will just plug in. It can be a nightmare hacking up the 88 harness to work with the 90 shell

on a scale of 1-10.... 4.5 you just need to look up the color codes for your wires, remove wires+pins from your plugs and re-arrange as needed

ok, to clarify... I did the reverse of your swap... (89 engine into 87) but all you need to focus on is the body harness.... shouldn't be more than 20 or so wires to sort through...

Please please please note that the '89 ECU harness will not work with the '90 chassis harness. It may have grey plugs, but it's the same pin configuration as the '87-'88.

I put an '87 engine, harness and ECU into my '89 chassis, and it fit fine with only the headlight ECU pin causing a problem. Everything except the ABS plugged straight in.

A '90 is a whole different animal. As I understand, you will need a '90 harness, though a '90-'92 ECU will work. The '91-'92 harness has different connectors on the knock sensors, so you'd need to change those with that harness. There may be other sensor differences for those years as well.

okay, so its not a to difficult job to tackle?
When you did it, was it worth the hassle?
I wish there was a right up on it, but it looks like I have to figure this one out somehow:icon_frow:1zhelp:

at first i had made the 89 engine run on 87 electronics (with help from my buddy CJ) WHAT A PITA... my 87 harness was in bad shape (throwing 5+ codes), so I swapped back to 89 ecu and engine harness... it wasn't very difficult once you wrote down the color codes and what they all meant... and yes it was WELL worth it...
