In putting my 87 turbo manual engine into a newly aquired 89 na auto body. The problem im having is w/ the wiring for the body. I have an 89 male connector but dont know what wires go to what. Im also having a problem with a connector that only allows me to use half of the wires. Does anyone have a wiring diagram or some tips?

Cya: good luck getting a pre '89 harness to connect to an '89+ harness. here's what you should do:

you have an '89 chassis. it has gray ECU plugs, correct? if so, you need to get the late style, TURBO engine harness and ECU. (89-92)

the 87-88 (yellow plug) wiring harness will NOT plug into the late style harness. (gray plug)

you'll have to splice on 3-4 one wire connectors from the early model harness to get it to plug into the motor, and the rest should be plug and play.

www.4cefed.com should answer many of your questions.

Why are my lights still on while down? Anybody run into this problem?

Yep, i've seen this problem a few times with 87 engine + ecu in 89 body. It is caused by a difference in the pinout of the wiring harness connectors. Specifically the 'M1' connector near the ecu. My theory is that if you clip the ecu's connection to the headlight relay they should work normally, of course your car won't idle up when you turn the headlights on.

I have also seen some other problems with gauges not working due to having this kind of setup, specifically water temp and oil pressure. Let me know if you are experiencing the same problems.

My connectors are yellow. The engine pins are plugged up its just the body plugs that are giving me hell. Where does the HAC sensor plug up. I took it out the 87 and can't remember where to put it.

Ill have to see what wires i have to splice. I think there are 5 or so. Thanks...all help is appreciated.

if your engine harness is an '89+ then there are no connectors for the HAC sensor because it's located INSIDE the ECU, instead of having an external HAC like the pre '89 cars do.

if your connectors are yellow, you must mate them to yellow connetors. ;)
