i have a short block 7mgte with the head oil pan water pump and a few other parts

A complete 7mge in my supra.

I am trying to swap in the gte and it seems all the externals are interchangeable but need some clarification

I noticed most of the externals fit and my intake manifold and throttle body also fit but i need to use my ge valve covers (which also fit)

Is there anything that cannot be used that i should know now before i build this whole engine on ge externals

You're going to stay NA? If so, the pistons in the GTE short block are a lower CR...it will suffer a fairly substantial power loss. The GTE also has oil squirters, not a big deal in this case.

Since this is a NA question, thread moved to the 7M-GE Tech section.

o no im going turbo but the na is in my car at this moment... what i was trying to ask was since i have a short block gte with all internals, would it be safe to switch my ge externals over to the gte... and, if any, which parts wouldnt be intechangeable

so im pretty sure it should still be a gte question since im talking about building my gte... sorry for the misunderstanding

The heads are the same. The blocks are almost the same. The GTE block is made from the GE block. In case you couldn't tell when they are side by side.

so since the heads and block are almost the same, that means i can bolt all my ge externals to the gte (my alternator, p/s pump, intake manifold, etc etc etc...) right?

You need to read the sticky. The GE and GTE intake manifolds are different.

We have no idea what your plans are until you tell us...there are several ways to crack this nut. That is why the sticky is there. Instead of asking random questions, it would be a lot more effective to ask after you kinda have a clue as to what you are doing ;)

What i have is a n/a supra with bad internals ( head gasket and bearings to be exact.) I just recently bought a 7mgte shortblock ( block, head, complete valve train, water pump, exhaust manifold and lower intake manifold,) from a friend in oceanside.

Since this engine is missing all bolt-ons (p/s pump, upper intake, throttle body, alternator, tensioners, etc.) I figured instead of spending money that i dont have trying to replace every single part missing from this shortblock, I can just replace it with the GE parts, I know the GTE doesnt use the same intake manifold as the GE but i hear it is still possible.

What i am trying to do with this swap is safely get it on the road as soon as possible with what little money i have, I dont care about hp or torque gains or losses right now i just need to be mobile again.

So, once again, I have a 7mge in my car that does not run and a 7mgte in my yard with only a head, block, complete valvetrain, lower intake manifold, exhaust manifold, and water pump connected to it.

I have a long list of 7mge parts that will successfully complete a 7mge (obviously), what I am planning to do is take this long list of 7mge parts and bolting what fits onto my 7mgte block and head and whatever doesnt fit or is needed i will purchase later

Alternator, A/C Comp, P/S, Idler pullies, will all bolt on there no problem. the Thermostat housing IS different. it has provisions for the coolant -> Turbo lines, as well as different locations/sensors there as well. The N/A P/S reservoir is actually an upgrade (Aesthetics/conveniance, Not performance) of course the distributor gets replaced with the CPS, and coil packs. Now thats what I remember as far as MECHANICAL. now electrical is a whole different beast. I know you said you were using the GE upper intake and TB. I'm pretty sure you need to rewire the TPS for that to work properly, and you will of course need a harness, and ECU, from a GTE. hope that helps.

finally a straight answer... thanks alot and thanks again for the engine lol

i knew the distributor wasnt a go because the coil packs so other than that and the thermostat housing, along with the electrical i should pretty much be set. unless someone else knows what i need to change

EDIT: btw there is no possible way to use my current harness huh? I hear harnesses are hard to find

It was only a straight answer to your detailed question. Don't be a smart ass.

Well the first 2 times I asked the question seemed pretty clear and simple... "Can I use my ge externals on a gte" pretty straight forward and simple... but according to people it had to be in complete detail with all my plans and a bunch of bullshit that really wouldn't help with the question anyway... See how simple it was for snowman to answer? As simple as the question.

EDIT: btw.. when i said that i was actually talking about jdub... you actually gave me helpful information and i thank you for that

I'll tell you sport...it's not that simple and your question was not clear (except maybe to you). You posted in the wrong section to boot...next time I give you an infraction instead of just telling you. I was trying to get you to read the swap FAQ to see what's involved and perhaps save you some time/effort. Seems you're too lazy for that and damn sure don't appreciate it, as evidenced by your smart ass comment.

At that point I wrote you off. You get to learn the hard way as far as I'm concerned :3d_frown:

JDub means read the sticky at the top of the section. If you read it you will answer ALL of your questions. Help YOURSELF before asking someone else to help YOU.

Obviously you havent read it or even searched the forum because it has been covered thousands of times. Read it once and you will find out immediately if you can use you N/A harness or if you need to purchase a GTE harness.

Remember, nobody owes you any information, as all info you get from here is FREE. So its up to you to take the advice or pay someone else to answer your questions.

nope can't use the harness, need the ECU and harness. I think Suprasport and Horsepowerfreaks MIGHT sell them but they are $$$ but its a sound investment as you'll never chase down another electrical gremlin. Past that just keep surfing the 3 main forums keeping your eyes open.

MODS can we clean out the unreleated posts?
