7M-GTE need help identifying what year it was manufactured

I purchased a JDM 7M-GTE. It came with a cut wiring harness and I would like to identify the exact year so I can purchase a matching ecu and wiring harness. Also I'll need to buy a TSRM and TEWD and want to be sure what year it is. I've searched the forums and internet with no luck on a sure method to identify the year. I've learned the block stamp is useless. I'm wondering if anyone could explain to me differences Toyota made to the 7M throughout the years, and how I can identify these. I have the engine stripped down and will be taken the head off so any internal differences would be helpful as well.

So to sum this up, how do I identify the exact year my 7M-GTE is?

Thanks in advance to those who reply.

Ya the year of the engine is irrelevant. Match the ecu/harness/and car together.

To answer your question:
Theres pics if you search block differences on this site you should be able to find pics
There will be a rib on the exhaust side on the cylinders and inbetween the cylinders on the out side
Early gte blocks did not have oil squiters.

Okay cool, by the way I'm putting the 7M into an mk2 85 supra. So from my understanding I can order in ANY year harness and ecu, plug them into the motor and wire those up to my mk2's wiring?

I dont know mk2 but i dont see why not.

But 89+ has some different sensors that have different plugs and the pins on the plugs are different also.

not sure if it is relevant, but 89+ did the internal hac sensor correct? and 87-88 was external, not sure if it makes a difference on what you are doing or not.

Shouldnt as the wiring has the connector for the hac sensor and you can buy a used hac sensor off someone.

Makes sense if you can wire up any wiring harness and ecu to the motor that I can convert the rest to work with my mk2. I looked up the hac sensor and you're correct about that. I found some more information on http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h24.pdf .

So if the plugs and pins are different I'm assuming it wouldn't plug into the motor. So it sounds like I only need to narrow down the engine year to either pre 89, or 89+ ?

The sensor will go into the motor no problem. Its the connectors on a couple, like knock sensor plugs, csi time switch plug, o2 sensor. Toyota used some different pins and plugs between pre89 and 89+ but all of it is interchangeable with the engine.
