I was thinking to swap a 2jz twin turbo 5 or 6 speed in my mk3 cuz with the 1jz I can't pass the smog. I want to spend $5000 max into this project

I don't think you can do it for that price, unless you are swapping in an automatic. Even then, a front clip in great shape [what you want] plus shipping is going to bring you over $4k. After that, you motor mounts, a custom downpipe and a 3" exhaust would be good at this point. You need so much more. I'm just going to say "no, $5k isn't enough".
i agree, but i was talking with www.mid-westmotors.com (i think is the name of the place) and they was asking $3500.00 for a 2jz frount clip...maybe that will help. BTW. do you want to sell your 1jz?????

Can you not pass smog because of a visual check, or because of your the sniffer? If it's the sniffer, you might be able to tune your car leaner just for the test, and pass. I've heard of this being done.
Yeah. The 1JZ is great, and if you are itching for more displacement later on, you can always replace the 1JZ short block with a 2JZ short block and have a 3.0 - and while you have the head off, it'll give you a chance to rebuild and port the head. Then again, if you are on a 5k budget, I don't see all of that happening, or enough mods to need that, either.
