Some recent talks with the wife and lack of communications of other have gotten me thinking about swapping out the 1G for a 1J or 2J. I know the 2J from the start is more expensive to buy over the 1J but I am interested to see how much and what route everyone took for their swap. Did you use the harness that came with the engine or get a new one? Replace internals and gaskets? Throw in a new clutch? Take it to a shop for an install? These kinds of things are good info for me and others to know what it costs to swap engines in these cars.

Straight basic;
1/2 cut JZA70 - $2800
Clutch - $500
Driveshaft - $500
Rad+fans - $500
Fluids hoses seals etc - $500
Fuel pump - $100-$400

So yeah, it'd be easy to spend $5000
Without getting into changing mounts, bushings and all sorts of other stuffs that having the engine out makes real easy to change

it cost me around 5k for a swap with labor at driftmotion. I'm no expert but from what I know, if you buy any of the two engines or go to check on out, do a compression check to make sure it's good and look at everything, all you really need to replace is the seals, maybe the turbo, clutch for sure (if going manual), motor mounts (year specific), and the stock harness was used in my swap

I ended up spending ~$6500 on mine. Though it was more than the usual 1jz swap because went single turbo right off the bat. Paid $2900 for the motor shipped to my house, $350 to get the harness extended locally, $500 Precision Turbo (from member on here), $300 drewgo manifold (locally from a friend), then the rest of the money went into intercooler setup, gaskets, hoses, oil feed/drain line, and fluids.

I might have a slight advantage being RHD already but I dont think it would make it any cheaper. I have been looking at front clips on Ebay since it would everything I need but it is Ebay, buy at your own risk.

I'm at $6k. i overhauled it (clevite mains, connecting, new rings, gaskets etc.) twins were blown BAD. & that also includes my 6465 billet, & tweaked performance harness. Just saving up for exhaust manifold and standalone, clutch, wastegates, injectors, supertech valvetrain. pretty much all i need. which would add up to be easy 10K+. with mods.

p.s. DO NOT BUY FROM JDMENGINEZONE on ebay.

Cost me around 3300 done and running with stock twins. Most parts new. Including dm stage 3 clutch. Lightweight flywheel. And bell housing. Those were the most expensive parts in the whole swap.

I was lucky and ended up finding some used parts that helped me but it still ended at around 3800$
but then you get to sell all the 7m bits and make a few $ back

Where is everyone finding these engines for so cheap?

It depends if your located near an international port.

There are pockets of high saturation of engine importers around, being near toronto allowed me the choice of 5-6 different importers.

1500 - 2jzgte vvti
2000 - rebuild head/block
1600 - rebuild/upgrade twinds
1100 - harness
1500 - gaskets,hoses,belts,water pump, etc
500 - rear sump pan and jz/r154 bell housing

That is just the engine, not a cheep swap

I am at roughly 9500 with everything I have bought. That is including the roller at 1500. Though I have been buying a lot of new and higher performing parts. A lot of the parts I bought are not needed though.
