my car has a loud knock in all rpms but i sounds like a top end knock and i heard of people bending valves. it takes a long time to rev out and it has no power at all. it will barely go 40mph. the timing is good so how could i tell if its either a rod knock or a bent valve? should i do a compression test? what is the average compression for a 7m-gte?

Valves don't just bend themselfs. If this a stock engine, a valve can't hit the piston. It could just be valve lash way out, but the low power sympton doesn't sounds good
. Check your codes. Oh and sounds can be hard to trace sometimes, use the redneck sethescopre(wooden handle hammer) and try and locate it.

Unlikely you bent a valve, its a non interference motor. Check your cam timing and your timing belt tension, it could have jumped a tooth.
