Rich,
Just found your thread here! Your engine looks great! When are you going to start selling rebuilt engines on Ebay?...;)
I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my Supra, Looks like I need a new engine, so I'm thinking of picking up another JDM and replace the Headgasket...
The sunroof was one of those dealer installed items from what I have heard. I have been trying to get this thing running for 4 years. I even put a JDM engine and tranny in it. I'm done with it and I will sell some parts, but I would prefer to sell most of it as one item.
Pulled the head last week in anticipation to replace the head gasket (again, just replaced it back in November 2008) and the shop told me that the head had "stuff" in it, which means the engine has stuff in it too! I would have to have the entire engine rebuilt and it just is not in my budget...
Not sure about a turbo, but on my NA, the Knock Sensor was disconnected (I couldn't find the plug until I removed the alternator) for quite sometime, the engine light would come on once I started moving, but the engine still ran.
I feel your pain! I have a 89 that I put a new engine in (JDM) and after fixing a bunch of issues (took me almost a year to fix them all) I find out that it had a BHG! So back in November 2008 (in between jobs at the time) I had the head redone and replaced the head gasket. It ran great for...
You're right about that! I don't like having to re-fix things once I fix them, for that reason I went ahead and bought a remanufactured rack and pinion. It should be good for a long while.
Also, I'm not new to fixing old cars, I've been doing it for a long time. This is my second Supra, the...
One problem with owning a 89 Supra N/A that has over 200K, is that there is never an end to having to fix/replace things! :aigo:
My saga started about three years ago now when I took ownership of said car from my son, knowing I needed to replace the engine. :nono:
That only took about 9...
My prayers and condolences to your family and friends.
It's hard anytime we lose someone close. We just lost my mother-in-law this last June on my wife's and my 34th wedding anniversary.
I just picked up blue silicone vacuum lines and then the blue sparkplug wires. The blue mesh was some wire mesh stuff I found and thought I would try it on the hoses...only was able to do the top radiator hose and a by-pass hose I had to put in from the heatercore outlet to under the right side...
I'm on a bit of a budget since I'm unemployed at the moment. I should be starting a new job in the next couple of weeks though, and then I'll start working on it more since I plan on using it as a daily driver. :icon_bigg
After putting a JDM engine in my Supra almost two years ago and ignoring the advise of replacing the headgasket anytime you put a JDM in, I finally got around to doing the work this last week.
It took over one year for me to get to the point where I realized that I had a BHG, since I had a...
Thanks! So far so good! :icon_razz
I found out what my next problem is; I have been feeling and hearing a mild "bang" when I brake and put the car in reverse, or go forward from reverse. I pulled the right from wheel off and found that the rotor bolts holes are too big and the rotor is...
I have finally made it in to my office with the Supra (that's a 45 mile drive...oneway)...::w00t::
I still have lots of issues, but it seemed to drive just fine. Now to start on the next project, changing out the headlight/Wiper switch. Then check out the frontend for what sounds like...
It will cause your car to run rich and eat more gas. What is causing the "no Heat" issue?
After checking the heater core and control valve, I found that my hose coming out of the heater core is plugged up behind the engine, so I put in a bypass hose. To help get the air out of the system...
Morning all!
I still haven't been able to drive the Supra around too much because of the fact it hasn't had any heat. Well yesterday I decided to try running some coolant system cleaner through it and see if maybe the heater core was plugged. to make a long story short, the heater core was...
