Excellent, thanks. I wanted to know what bits he should keep. All hoses were changed. I asked him about the AC and he said the window works :D I may fix it sometime this summer as a gift if my own cars allow. Good to know about the EGR too! Pete

I do get the impression that perhaps the mech wasn't as familiar with it as he led me to believe. At least he was honest and held his price. Anyone have any ideas on which of the accessories, alt, compressor etc my nephew should keep (they're so clean)? Pete

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The new engine intake had a metal 'y' but the mech thought he still had to swap the old one. I have contacted the supplier to see if he knows what year it is. Pete

Runs great! Better than the old one perhaps. Prof looking too. Slight belt noise. The new engine had a 'y' intake on it? Pete

Many, many thanks for the comments and info folks. 'ACS' is the intake? I wouldn't want to take 10 hp away from my favorite (only) nephew :D The mech is charging a flat rate and sticking to it. He was highly rec'd as well, when all is said and done I'll post his name and the engine supplier...

Hmm, maybe I've got that wrong. He had to replace the entire manifold, all brackets, oil pan, exhaust manifold, many sensors (due to plug differences). Pete

It's been interesting. The mech has never used a Cressida engine for the swap before and surprise! he had to swap everything from the old block and heads onto the new one. AND! different throwout bearing FYI. Apparently you have to get the kit for a Cressida. So for now he's installing the...

Thanks, and mounts on the way! Pete

Whoa. I'm trying to remember the engine rotation, on small block fords you can put an extension on the breaker, set it against the ground, and hit the key :) The replacement engine has square motor mounts, can I use them or need to swap to round? Should I replace them (I'm thinking yes?)...

Engine prepped. We didn't get the crank bolt off, a 6 foot pipe on an old proto breaker bar, that bar was bending something crazy! A lesser bar would've snapped. So we'll leave the timing belt kit to the mech. Pete

All we're doing ourselves at this point is changing the timing belt, seals, oil pump etc and handing it to a mechanic, my sisters' decision. Heck the mech's retorquing the head and told me not to even install the clutch - I'm an almost useless appendage :) I like the JDM engine though, it's...

91 starter ordered! Remy on closeout. And engine, clutch, oil pump for a turbo, seals and gaskets ordered. Pete

Btw starters seem pretty year specific. Will a 91 starter fit on a (possibly) slightly older engine? Pete

I was told if I have to swap the oil pump anyway to replace it. I see they're fairly expensive. Do they fail? Pete

Oh I see: "... put my drain about 2 inches forward of the oil cooler return hole. Weld in a -10AN bung if you can." Pete

Again many thanks. I belong to forums for each of the cars I've owned and I really like how into it you guys are :) Hopefully I'll have something constructive to add eventually. Searching hard I've managed to get the engine pricing down a bit. We're probably going to decide which 7MGE to buy...

Thanks. I'll keep the turbo swap in mind. I'll research a list and if he's interested he can start getting the parts as he can once we get it running. Pete

Thanks Grand. Alright, we're just going to replace it straight up. Want else should we do while we've got the engine out? List so far: Timing belt kit/ front seals/ water pump (have the parts already) Rear engine seal Clutch kit (exedy ok for a stock 7MGE?) Front and rear tranny seals Slave...
