Whoa maybe it's a blessing in disguise that the 1JZ swap isn't happening - I'd hate for him to meet Mr Telephone Pole  :) So the 7M GTE does make a significant difference? It's too bad this happened out of the blue. I always expected him to upgrade it eventually, it would be a great...

Well I think we're back to the 7M. He needs to have the car running. So I'm thinking the GE, but if I find a GTE I think it would be a go. Still a great thing, I know he'll end up going with the 1JZ turbo or something fairly powerful eventually, and now he's got a good starting point to...

    1JZ Swap Parts Into a MKIII - List -

I'm looking into a 1jz swap into a 7MGE (non turbo) 1991 Supra 5 speed. I have some concerns though: 1) Do I need to change the tranny? 2) How will the tranny, diff, rear axles hold up to the large increase in power? 3) How skilled would you consider the job? ;) Thanks. Pete

Thanks for the comments, all input is appreciated :) It's not perfect but it's so perfectly clean rust wise, for a land of salt car you'd have to see it to believe it, and the tranny/suspension/steering/brakes are nice and tight. I wouldn't hesitate to spend $1000 on it (although it's too bad...

Thanks. I brought up a turbo to his mother and she kabboshed it immediately - he recently got a ticket for 85 in a 65. I tried to sell her on increased value but frankly he's lucky she doesn't just take the car away period, my parents probably would've :) I've got a ton of backed up maintenance...

Part of the problem is - me. I'm a parts changer, anything 'external' really, but I've never worked inside an engine. My sis took it to her mechanic and he said it's probably cheaper to swap a used one in than pay to have it properly diagnosed, then perhaps fixed or not. I hope to cover the...

It turns out the oil had been checked recently. Wonder how it lost 3 quarts so quickly? Thought about the turbo but (his!) money is an issue. Pete

Aaaannnnnnd - the engine is seized. Didn't keep an eye on the oil apparently. I'll probably be changing it. I've read many threads already about it. I'll inspect the clutch and clean everything. Anything else I should do with the engine/tranny out? Pete

So something like this will work for vac lines? http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLUE-SILICONE-VACUUM-HOSES-TUBE-TOYOTA-CELICA-SUPRA-MR2-MRS-/271325347615?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f2c403f1f&vxp=mtr Funny, I misplaced a piece of the vac hose when we were torqueing the head, I cut...

You know the more I think about this the more I'm convinced you're right. I didn't know the little hoses on top were coolant, it could've gone anywhere. Pete

Many many thanks guys. I've got the Zerex, it'll get flushed & filled when we do the timing belt/water pump hopefully next Saturday. Also the parts guy gave my sis the wrong size vac line (even though she took a piece!) so we'll get back to those too. Maybe I should do the fuel filter while he...

Again many thanks :) Spent a lot of Saturday and got the head retorqued, along with most hoses. The base torque was definitely less than 70. Forgot to change the rubber plug, d'oh! Great time spent with my nephew, it's nice to work with someone with a natural bent to machines, better than I...

He loves it, I think he'll take very good care of it. He's already scheming upgrades but learning expenses. I'm lucky too, he's a natural wrencher. 'Break that bolt loose boy!' :D Nothing wrong with the cooling system, the car seems to run excellent. Gramps wanted to do something to help with...

Hello folks! I'm helping my nephew with his new to him '91 7MGE Supra, heading over tomorrow AM. I've read a LOT of posts and plan on: Timing belt kit inc all seals, water pump, coolant flush with the correct coolant, belts hoses idlers etc, tstat and gasket, dist cap and dizzy (wires look...

    Howdy!

Not exactly an owner, more a close relative of a young driver helping with his first car :) '91 7MGE, 5 speed, 119ishk miles, non abs non fancy suspension. Very very clean rust wise particularly for the land of salt. Repainted a bit faded. Dark rust red with grey interior iirc. I think a great...
