Well, you got me thinking. So I looked it up on the TSRM, and came up with this.
I have an 87 with a 7MGTE, so I might be different depending on the year / engine.
The TSRM lists it as an input to the ECU. So I'd say it's a good idea to keep it hooked up.
Saying that, mines totally...
Sorry it took so long to reply! Been super busy.
The lash was all in spec, but I did pull the engine and got it on a stand.
Cylinder #5 rod bearing was fucked, and so was the main bearing in the center.
Also painted my block

Great point. Come to think of it my step dad has a trailer that just might work. And i have a little Nissan Nx2000 back home i can drive in the mean while so i can't complain.
Rebuild, properly clean the crank and oil cooler. Maybe new rods and (depending on how it looks after rod nock round...
Thank you so much for the insight. I really appreciate it. Now i just need to find a way to get it home haha
at this point the engine is pretty much dead so I'm debating trying to go for the drive? with back up plans if the inevitable happens on the way
shit. well thats no good. I'm starting to consider a 1jz swap now haha
what i don't understand is i changed the oil after the initial start up, and another 100 miles later. i thought it would be good after that. ran strong for 4,000 miles, and now all of the sudden this :/
come to think of it, i did not.
and it makes sense how not doing that could have chewed a bearing up.
should i try unhooking the injector harness's one by one still? exactly what would that tell me?
welp. got the video uploaded.. pretty much sealed my fate.

yeah if what your saying about 2200 is true I'm boned
Yeah that would be no fun. I Had awhile to wait during the rebuild for parts and money. So I cleaned it OCD style.
Think it's worth checking lash?

Btw it's a 7mgte in an 87 MK3. Rebuilt Becuase I had rod knock. But caught it early enough where the crank and rods measured out good still. So I'm hoping it's not that.

It's nothing special like that hah, but I just checked my timing to be sure and it's spot on from what i can tell.
Timing belts shouldn't have much play though should they? Mine felt pretty loose. I need to grab a new tensioner. My dumb ass didn't replace it.
But took it for a short drive...
OHH maybe my timing skipped a few degrees. Il have to check that out. I'm up at college right now so I can't really do too much to it.
Il pop that timing cover off and check it out
