taking '90 in for A/C work; couple Q's

well granted the R12 will work better, but isn't it cheaper and easier to get 134? My '94 4runner is 134 and it blows COLD, the minute you get in the truck.... tons of cold air. I converted my '84 supra to 134 a few years ago and we got that thing blowing ICE COLD. She has no a/c as of now...

taking '90 in for A/C work; couple Q's

Ok, somehow our 1990 is still R12. It's not blowing cold.... unless your in the shade or it's not hot outside, then it'll blow OK. I was thinking of taking it into a a/c shop, and having it flushed, Ester Oil put in the compressor, a new drier, and then put it under a vacuum for 4hrs and then...

    Oil Leaks (oil lines)

AT my work, we only carry Transmission oil cooler line and power steering oil line. the p/s hose looks much heavier duty, but looks don't mean much. I might hit up NAPA for some "oil cooler line". they have a better selection of hose I think.

    Oil Leaks (oil lines)

Ok, I think I've killed all the oil leaks but one. the oil lines on the passenger side of the car upfront are wet and drip oil. What kind of hose should I use to replace it? Power steering? Transmission line? what size is it.... 5/16" or 3/8"? Is this a pretty straight foward deal.... just...

    Air filter CFM

agreed. i'll just run my prelude paper filter until it makes a 5HP+ difference on the dyno lol.

    Air filter CFM

I think the word of how K&N's don't filter well, leave oil on MAFs etc is getting out. A lot of people at my work have been asking about the oil issue with KN's. I just tell them, yes they flow more air vs paper, but don't filter out dirt like paper does and then theres the issue of oil on the...

    Air filter CFM

that's what I figured. this filter is decent size. it's 5.5" OD, 2.83" ID on the pipe, and about 6" long. Pleates are deep, and lots of them. I just don't wanna starve/choke my turbo of air supply.

    Air filter CFM

i didn't mean restrictivness from getting dirty. I meant restrictive in the sense it'll restrict the turbo's job of sucking air in. as in if i'm runnin 18PSI on a T61 ball bearing turbo... is that filter gonna flow enough w/out causing a large pressure drop.

    Air filter CFM

JJ- when do I start worrying about it restricting flow to much?

    Air filter CFM

IT'S ALREADY ON THE CAR!!!! It worked out like a champ. $10, paper air filter; cylinder. it's got real deep pleats which is good. it slid right into the 7mgte accordian hose and I put a clamp on it. Done. That's deffinately gonna be my air filter for the street. Only reason I'll remove/KN it...

    Air filter CFM

NICE. I looke dup a pic of the part number. I'll pull it off the shelf at work and see if it'll work. Thanks for the tip!!! That'll be a lot cheaper than a KN, filter a lot better than a KN too!

    Air filter CFM

I have a turbo 5M '84 supra. Everything has to be custom fab'd. where my original air box was now runs IC pipes. I need a cone filter that will fit on the end of the 7mgte accordian turbo hose.

Lexus RX300 Timing belt job (dealership) Long, but you gotta read.

well, i'm just hoping she didn't pay $500 for a Alt belt. i'm gonna pull the cover to check it out.

    Air filter CFM

JJ- I agree with you. I'd love to find a paper "universal" cone filter. Only thing I can find to fit what i'm working with is the KN. Do you have any suggestions on finding a 3" cone filter that's paper... b/c that'd make my day.

Lexus RX300 Timing belt job (dealership) Long, but you gotta read.

it's a 3.0 V6. not sure what the engine name is. Is that motor really easy to do a timing belt on or something? why doesn't the water pump need replaced?

    Air filter CFM

Ok, on my 5mgte i'm trying to pick out a Universal taper cone K&N filter. I've picked the biggest one I can physically fit in the spot. According to some calculations I found online for KN air filters... it flows 635 CFM. Is that enough for a turbo car? I've got a upgraded CT-26 that has the...

Lexus RX300 Timing belt job (dealership) Long, but you gotta read.

b/c she only knows how to deal with dealers or somin. we all keep telling her DON"T GO BACK, but she keeps going back. So now i'm going there tomorrow with her to argue it. and get her money back. complete bs. Oh, and while it was in for the 3hr timing belt job, they replaced the broken power...

Lexus RX300 Timing belt job (dealership) Long, but you gotta read.

My mother in law has a '01 RX300 which has a 3.0 V6 FWD. The local dealership, Lexus of tampa bay, has had a very bad track record with her.... Everything from forgetting to put the oil cap back on, lose air box intake pipe clamps, to them using cheap cheap oil filters and charging lexus...

Fuel Pressure Gauge; use teflon tape or not?

ok, i used a piece of tape. Wow does the car run better. I had 10psi of fuel pressure, and a fuel filter that was starving my Aeromotive fuel pump. It quieted the pump down a TON putting the correct 100 micron pre-pump filter on. I'm gonna put the 10 micron post-pump filter under the hood, where...

Fuel Pressure Gauge; use teflon tape or not?

got myself a summit liquid filled 0-100psi pressure gauge to screw into my Aeromotive pressure regulator. it's 1/8" NPT. Should I use teflon tape or not?
