I have never seen forms to fill out, but I have read the TSRM. Everything you need is in there. There are tables of values in the Service Specifications section towards the end.
From memory, the only difference is the GTE block has oil squirters and a second knock sensor. Pre-89 blocks typically had a 6M crank, 89+ a 7M crank with a slightly lower redline. Heads are the same between the two, but the cam shafts are not. Browsing around the EPC for a while will show other...
I looked at my old emails from when I found a shop via eBay that recovers wheels, and I believe it was Dallas Custom Steering Wheels that did mine. It was over 10 years ago, and my eBay history doesn't go back that far. The listing is long gone.
They did a great job and it has lasted very well.
Ha! Yea, that step would be for the open differential only. They also don't tell you to put the transmission in neutral.
If you're putting the old ring gear on a different differential case, you should expect to have to change the side shims.
Differentials are singularly the most picky thing to put together on your car. Being off by 0.001 will make the difference between a long, quiet life, and whining and grinding itself to powder in short order.
The pinion and ring gears must be aligned just right with respect to each other in 2...
Since you changed out your radiator, it's unlikely you left any debris between the radiator and AC condenser. This car like to collect leaves there which will block air flow. That said, how clogged is your condenser? That will also block air flow.
Do you have the engine undercover? That will...
The block decking does/should do very little since you typically only need to take off a few thousandths of an inch, just enough to get rid of the gouges made by the crappy stock gasket that squirms around and chews up the deck. More material comes off the head because the gasket chews deeper...
The one best thing I did to my GE to improve drivability was a 2.5" free-flowing exhaust. It may have added some power at the top end, but it also made the engine happier from 1800-3000rpm, where you drive most. Plus, it sounds really sweet.
If your top end is apart, gasket match all the intake...
I have, but sorta not on purpose. My head and deck have lost about 1mm over 3 BHGs and I'm still running the stock gasket thickness. (Though it's an MLS gasket now.) My car has never seen a dynomometer, so I have no idea about how much more power it has. I've used mid-grade 89 gas after my 2nd...
The middle valve cover (#3) does a few things: the spark plug boots hook onto it for retention and strain relief, it holds the little trees that hold the plug wires, and the black covering acts as a gasket for the big plugs. The black coating quickly hardens and flakes off, letting the plugs...
FWIW, I've never had a problem with air getting trapped in the system. I usually disconnect the highest hose that goes to the throttle body, then squish the top hose to swish around the coolant until it comes out that hose. That gets out most of the air and the rest works it way out over the...
Ah, electric fans. Which ones? Maybe you should put the stock fan and shroud back on and see if your cooling problems go away.
Do you have an engine undercover? That also helps quite a bit.
A suggestion: where your new speedo cable threads onto the transmission, take it back off and antisieze the crap out of it. Do the same where the two pieces meet. Future you will appreciate that.
I would say that Toyota learned that when you sell an expensive car to people who can afford it, the car had better be quiet. The MkIV design is "better" to many people because it's quieter. The MkIII design is better to a few of us because it performs better and we accept noise as a side effect.
For your GE, ARP bolts will do just fine, torqued to 75ft-lb. In fact, the stock head bolts will also be fine at 70ft-lb (IIRC). Studs are better than bolts, in general, giving a more predictable preload than bolts.
It's easy, so checking for codes is a good first step.
How old is your gasoline? How old are the spark plugs? Checking for intake leaks between the turbo and throttle body is in order. That's most likely to leak under maximum boost.
The TSRM troubleshooting chart can help with ideas of what to...
More information please. Is everything stock or are there any modifications? Has this been a problem since you got the car or did it suddenly appear? Did you check for codes?
They also used a hammer on it - you can see the dents in the first picture.
That said, this driveshaft is tricky to get apart with a press and pullers because of the yoke shapes. I swapped u-joints on a Jeep driveshaft once and it was cake because the yokes had large flat areas for the press...
