Jeff's 1992 Toyota Hilux Xtra Cab Project (56K Death)

DAY 19: Auto To manual conversion So I have been running on the assumption that the holes for the clutch slave cylinder were on the firewall. I discovered that that was not the case, as the auto and manual trucks have different cabs. Seems crazy that Toyota actually has 4 different types...

Jeff's 1992 Toyota Hilux Xtra Cab Project (56K Death)

Day 18 Getting the engine ready to install I dropped the front sump pan and installed the 3VZ pan. Ive seen others drill out the plug for the mid sump dipstick, but a new union was only like $6 from toyota. I drove the old plug out with a 1/4" extension from my socket set, it was the...

    Mossberg 500, anyone use one?

My brother has a Remmington 887 (based of 870). The mossberg is good, but has more wobble in the pump. Performance wise, I dont think it makes a difference, but the remmingtons feel more stable to me. I have no experience with the maverick, but a friend of mine bought a supernova NEW and...

Jeff's 1992 Toyota Hilux Xtra Cab Project (56K Death)

Thanks man, it definitely will be. You guys are overdue for an update. I assure you I haven't given up on the project, just been working hard, and now that the sun ditches me around 4 PM, I haven't been as good about taking progress pics. That said, lets get this show on the road. Day...

Jeff's 1992 Toyota Hilux Xtra Cab Project (56K Death)

Day 11: Crossmember Replacement After cleaning up the tubular crossmember it was obvious that it was rotted so badly, its structural integrity had been completely comprimised. Looking at it made me sick and I couldnt put the truck back together without addressing it. This post will be in a...

PAINT! WHAT ARE GOOD or BAD COLORS?

3E5 red all day long. If I could go back in time and buy an MK3 off the lot it would be 3E5 red with a shadow grey interior.

    7mge fuel delvery problem.

If it stuck closed pressure would spike, but it may still start. If it was stuck open he wouldn't get sufficient pressure and it probably wouldnt start.

    7mge fuel delvery problem.

Yes the FPR can get stuck. Wouldnt drop the tank just yet, its not going to tell you anything, just waste your time. Get a fuel pressure tester, and test your fuel presure. Report back, and we can go from there.

    Tire size

You should get a 17 inch tire... Just messing with you. Look on the inside of the rim. It should be marked as 17x6.5, 17x7, 17x7.5 exc. The first number is obviously the diamater of the rim. (17 inches in your case) The second number is the width of the rim. We need this number in...

Jeff's 1992 Toyota Hilux Xtra Cab Project (56K Death)

Thanks Rick! Its not gonna be perfect but according to Eastwood the only prep neccesary for the Rust Encapsulator paint is wire brush/acetone wipedown so this shoud be overkill by their standards. I'll shoot you a text about this weekend when I figure out what I'm doing.

Had a little free time tonight, addressed that control arm mount. Got it welded up and ground down, just need to re cut the bolt slot. Before: Filled: Ground flush:

Jeff's 1992 Toyota Hilux Xtra Cab Project (56K Death)

Thanks man, I want it to last so I'm avoiding cutting corners with it. As far as the front end goes, its gonna remain IFS, at least for the foreseeable future. Its going to spend most of its time on pavement, and the occasional trail riding, nothing that would neccesitate a solid axle. Plus...

Jeff's 1992 Toyota Hilux Xtra Cab Project (56K Death)

Great weather this weekend, made some real progress! Day 9 Started stripping down the frame. The deterioration of the round crossmember became increasingly apparent. Did the bed portion of the frame. Decided to skip the bottom, then flip the frame over and do the bottom after. Pics...

Jeff's 1992 Toyota Hilux Xtra Cab Project (56K Death)

Sorry for the lack of activity, I've been really busy lately. Had alot of work, and the hurricaine made a real mess on some of my clients' properties. My tarp shed, as well as the neighbors batting cage, (seen in day 1 photos) were both hit with trees. You can actually see the damaged cage in...
