Phil man, so sorry to hear. Its just terrible. I am not int he are still out in Calgary but I'll be moving back soon and I'll help out wherever I can. I bought my first Supra from you many years ago now. Once I have some cash to spare I'll send it along.
I don't know what to say other...
So I unplugged the AFM and the car will start. It runs for 10-15 seconds and dies. But I can restart over and over now... wtf.
I got code 24 after AFM was pulled.
So I guess I am closer.
I have yet to have a chance to get a vacuum gauge.
I havent had a chance to work on the car tonight but was wondering how do you jumper the AFM and what does this accomplish? Since the car will start and run (roughly) while the flapper is being held open 1/2 to 3/4 of the way, this seems to be the most likely suspect at the moment.
Thanks
Actually I swtiched the intake pipe over from the orginal motor for the throttle linkage (the JDM was an Auto Tranny)
Kingsoup just pushed open the AFM flapper while I tried to start it and the car ran for 20-30 seconds or so. So I have pulled the AFM out and tested resistance but it all...
Ok well we are really sure its fuel now.
We took off the intake and poured in some gas while I tried to start and it ran for a few seconds.
When we short pins Fp and +B we can hear the fuel pump, but the fuel pump relay makes a buzzing noise, we popped the the cover and the relay is not...
The two seperate ground wires, thin gauge that go to the intake are on it, but I'll check to make sure they are making good contact.
Large gauge black wire driect from the battery negative/ground is what I have going to the starter.
I also added two new grounds heavy gauge wire on either...
Well I guess that settles it then, my timing must be off, I just set the crank to TDC Compression and pulled the timing cover off, it was off by maybe a full tooth between the two gears. I rest and tried again still no luck, back to the distributor I guess.
Thanks again for the replies.
Hey thanks for the replies,
Ok It is getting fuel, when we pull a plug we can smell it. We tested for spark we are getting it as well. AFM is plugged in. We rotated to TDC on Compression stroke (looked for cam lobe in oil filler cap on valve cover) and set the distributor. We checked...
Hey all,
I have just finished putting my new JDM 7MGE into my car, but it wont start. It cranks over, you can smell fuel when you pull a plug out, and we have checked for spark.
We put a timing light on it while it is cranking over and it looks good.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance...
Hey Steve,
Calgary is great! The guy in the local club here hav been very helpful with locating parts etc.
I think our plan is to tap it out to a larger size and try a slightly larger bolt.
If not we mahe to Heli Coil it.
Hey Guy's
I was getting ready to mount my W54 to the motor (replacing motor with JDM after it threw a rod). Anyway when we backed one of the flywheel bolts out of the JDM we noticed it was really tight and it looked like we had left some thread from thebolt inside. We made a mental not and...
We just did this yesterday to my 7MGE, we used the old rope trick, feed some quater inch rope into cyl #1 start to turn the motor over the piston will push against the rope and stop. you can then tourque bolt to 195 then back the crank back the other way and remove the rope. This trick was...
Hey Guys,
I have searched and not found what I was looking for. I have read something about oil pan swaps before but I belive it was on celicasupra and relating to the MKII so I don't know how applicable it is.
Anyway I bought a 86.5 MKIII with Rod Knock (understatement huge hole in block...
Looks like my room mate has scored a sweet deal on a 7MGE for me w00t, so motor swap begins this weekend. He haggled that poor JDM place down like crazy.
