Brian Crower Stage 2 cams RPM operating range?

By valve gear I mean springs, retainers, buckets etc. With cams set at 0 you will most likely get the same crap performance that I and Blackcat have found. If you advance both cams by +3 degrees your performance will most likely be pretty close to optimum. I am assuming you have an...

Brian Crower Stage 2 cams RPM operating range?

Yes. The 7m-gte cam wheels will work. They are the same. You can achieve +/-3 and +/- 4.5 and +/- 6 and +/- 7.5 degrees with the stock cam wheels. They are a vernier style wheel. However you will have to remove the wheel and refit it to change the timing. Adjustable cam wheels just make it...

Brian Crower 7M cams and ignition timing issue

Hi Blackcat Looks like your cams have responded exactly the same as mine. Have you noticed the lovely exhaust note you get with the exhaust cam advanced. Sounds like a Ferrari or something like that. Mine are both set at +3 advance ATM. My idle quality is good now except when cold it...

Brian Crower Stage 2 cams RPM operating range?

The ECU controls the gear shifts and when it changes gear it still has very good power. 5500-6000rpm shift points. I think fuel cut occurs around 7000rpm so there is not much more room to move.

Brian Crower Stage 2 cams RPM operating range?

I have found with mine that the performance is better than the stock cams throughout the rev range. The pick up off the mark is great and when the ECU changes gear they are still pulling stong. The idle quality however is now marginal. My cams are both set to +3 deg advance as mentioned...

Brian Crower 7M cams and ignition timing issue

OK here is the bodge. Seems to work but I highly recommend you get a spare ECU and try it on that first. Do it at your own risk. Basically cut the A/C pin of the connector on the back side inside the ECU and jumper it to the B+ pin. That way the ECU thinks the A/C is always on.

do u need ajustable cam gear w/bc stage 2 cams

Try a little advance on both your cams. Mine came alive after dialing in a little advance. It ran like crap below about 3000rpm with cams degreed in at zero.

    downside to a "JDM" ECU?

Australian versions didn't have EGR but did have cats.

Brian Crower 7M cams and ignition timing issue

I think I have fixed the idle issues with the air con off. I managed to trick the ecu into thinking the A/C is always on so minimum idle speed is now about 700rpm. I will wait and see how it runs before posting how I did it. I should know within a day or so if there are any side effects.

do u need ajustable cam gear w/bc stage 2 cams

Do you guys find that running advance on your exhaust cam and retard on your inlet cam that you get crappy performance down low and doesn't pick up until you reach high rpm??

Brian Crower 7M cams and ignition timing issue

Hi Blackcat If you start off with both cams set at +3 advance you will hopefully find that you are close to the optimum settings. Overall I have found the performance gains to be worth all the effort and really the only thing I could seriously grumble about is the original ignition timing...

Brian Crower 7M cams and ignition timing issue

I did put the degree wheel on but I couldn't really see it very well without removing the radiator. In the end I checked the exhaust valve closing and inlet valve opening events at the 50 thou lobe lift points and they agreed exactly with the timing card and the straight up zero marks on the cam...

Brian Crower 7M cams and ignition timing issue

Any less than 114 LSA and it won't idle, atleast with the air con off. Air con on and maybe 112 is acceptable. At my current setting of +3 advance on both cams I get good performance throughout the rev range. Interesting thing is no sign of any pinging even with 15 deg static ignition...

Brian Crower 7M cams and ignition timing issue

How close are you to getting your cams in?? I have tried two settings over the weekend. It is suprising how much smoother the engine revs out now. I was convinced before that the 7M engine didn't like high rpm, but now it revs strongly and smoothly with these cams. The kickdown is really...

Brian Crower 7M cams and ignition timing issue

Update: I have fitted the second adjustable cam wheel today and reset all the valve clearances to Exhasut 12 -to 14 thou Inlet 10-12 thou This should hopefully improve my idle and may allow me to run less advance on the cams. Road testing tomorrow.

New motor won't idle. BC 264 cams?

Hi IJ Can I ask if you set the clearances up to 13 to 15 thou deliberately or did you end up with these clearances through your tuning process. I'm just curious because I feel that my next step is going to be to slightly increase all the clearances. At the moment they are all in the range 8...

New motor won't idle. BC 264 cams?

I have just installed BC264 cams in my 7M-GE. I find that the idle at standard cam setting is marginal and if you decrease the overlap then it improves dramatically. I imagine the problem would be worse on a turbo engine. If you are prepared to remove the timing belt again you can change the...

Thanks for the reply. I would love to see some pics sent to me at a.michie@usyd.edu.au BTW I don't remember seeing a PM from you. I hope its not my failing memory again. Andrew.

Brian Crower 7M cams and ignition timing issue

I was thinking of just adjusting the speed sensor input to the ECU so the ECU thinks the car is going slower than it really is. As far as I know the shift points are based on road speed and throttle position. If I change to 4.3 gears from 3.9 then I will have to do this anyway to make the speedo...
