Well, I went and got a block tester this morning and the outcome of the two tests conducted were great great news......
See... Test 1, Blue mean no BHG
Test 2... more beautiful blue
Stuck my finger inside radiator and theres alot of serious white pudding like goo on the walls...
Not saying the block cant be cracked but the shop is extremely anal about what they work on.... Yeah they did check for cracks and inspected both block and head and checked out ok to work on... After resurfacing they checked again...... Unless the block just cracked all of a sudden then iono......
Hey guys, I posted a thread about this a few months back and after reading up on yalls opinions I came to the conclusion I had to pull head... I did and came upon this....
Once I saw this I was quick to think yes... MHG did not seal, could have been rivets on cometic head gasket soo I...
Yeah, all rivets are gone and I will take care of removing viton off the inner layers tomorro.... I already have the copper spray... I was wondering, do I spray it and let it sit and dry before install or do I spray it and install it right away?.... Hopefully if God permits I will be...
Haha, that sure does sound like something that would happen to me...... :3d_frown:.... Anyways, in case any of yall care to see about the progress so far.....
Pic1 w/o evil viton
Pic 2 w/o evil viton
It seems to be 98% ready, it does have a few tiny dots of viton but I will go...
"Tough Stuff" is an understatement if you ask me but I found a combo that works decently to good.....
This...
In about 25 min I got 65% done, in an hour tomorro morning it should be ready..... I soaked it in aceton for an hour and it didnt help, then tried again and nope. Then...
I would asume that since the MHG had berely been put in it didnt go thru the harsh conditions a few months worth of driving would give it, weakening it maybe... I still have a little less then half to go on the top side and the whole bottom side.... I will just continue trying with diferent...
Well I bought acetone today in hopes this would do the trick... Soaked it in aceton for a couple of hours but when I came back it was evaporated.... I checked to see if it weakend the Viton at all but it didnt do anything.... Sigh, fustration is beginnig to kick in.... Its soaking under the...
Well, its a new day... In a little bit I will head down to Home Depot and see about the paint thinners and Aceton...... I will continue to use this sponge with a rough top for washing dishes... It was the only thing that made progress yesterday....... By the way, I would like to thank all of...
I tried the tooth brush with brake spray 1st... It felt like I was just tickling it, it didnt bother the viton at all.... Note, the MHG was on there for a month or two were the car was berely driven at all a few times....
Oh nana lol.. Sorry if I sounded offended... I kno people(noobs) do that all the time but nah... I was just trying to knock out things to see of I could get to the problem... But indeed it could have been any of those... I guess I can only remove rivets and try again with a clean Viton free MHG...
Arp bolts.... And nope, I did not retorque...... I am berely hearing about the 5 cycles thing... I was planning to retorque after the engine was broken in at about 1000 miles.... Never even got close to it.....
I have and used arp's..... The shop that did the resurfacing is probably one of the best in the Houston Area.... I have seen worst finishes on head and block that have sealed with one of these cometics..... The procedures on tightning were done with me and Derek(Jdma70) and we were as careful...
Thanks for the Picture props lol..... I will remove all rivets that seem in the way. After going thru most pages on reusing a MHG I got it down but wht worries me is wht caused this... Do NOT want to do this again in a long time hehe......
Hmm, I am now actually advancing with the viton removal by using a dishwashing scrubbie thing....... Since your MHG is the same I asume copper spray on just both sides top and bottom before install..... That other stuff looks good but I already bought the copper spray..... :P
Hmm, after going bk to work on the MHG I noticed there was no Viton on the inside layers of my MHG..... My first initial expression was YAY!! then I was like whoa wait :/... Have any of yall noticed this on yall's MHG's?....
I am leaning towards putting in the work of removing the viton off(all layers) right? JDub if you could please clarify this it would be much appriciated... I will also remove all rivets questionable and use copper spray for the reinstallation of the head :)... Any more input would be great...
Hmmm... I have a stone HG that came with the engine gasket set I used.. I am thinking about using it now that it does seem like the MHG did not seal.. The power goals of this car are right around 350 hp at the wheel.... Alot of money did go to the machine shop thou in order to resurface head...
