First off, welcome to Supramania, should post up in the introductions section with some pictures of the Bimmers. Second, sorry to hear of your father's passing, looks like he took very nice care of that car, if you don't intend to keep it, I'm sure someone would give it a good home. I personally...
Definitely not concerned about the strength of it, more concerned about the critical speeds. Then again, if you're looking at a shaft used on a car trapping higher than I'm ever likely to, I don't see a problem. Does it help with engine response though? That always seemed like another nice side...
I'd be afraid to see just how much torque you're putting out if you're killing R154's this quick. I've seen them stand up to SERIOUS (well into the 700+ft-lbs range) abuse in my time, and you're the first to post pics I've seen of completely stripped gears...
This is one of the reasons I try to do my own homework and get part numbers of what my own homework reflects will work. Relying on someone that does not know your car or know what has been done to it (try finding 1j parts in BFE, Wyoming) isn't a very good idea...
I found out the harassed way that my transmission has a speedometer gear from a car with the 4.1 Torsen diff... Honestly officer, I didn't realize I was doing 90mph, speedometer read 75. Oooohhhhh... wait a minute, I know why now... sorry about that. :: facepalm ::
For what it's worth, I only drive with my headlights up if I need the light or want to be seen, so I'd give the looks a pass in my book.
Also, which is which? Is Raybrig an OEM manufacturer for this sort of thing?
I've actually considered re-routing the hose for the rear window nozzle to spray either the intercooler or radiator... thoughts? I was thinking some evap cooling on hard pulls might be nice.
I'm still thinking about getting one of the carbon fiber ones that Titan sells (sold?) for our cars. IIRC Ian said that critical speed on something that light shouldn't be a concern, hence the appeal.
Will be looking forward to a review, Wes is a great guy and knows how to fab...
Mine started slipping on me after I upped the boost to 16psi on my 1j, although it came with the engine/trans that I bought from whoever that really good engine importer was in Georgia. I'd estimate 360-380rwtq.
Appears to me to be the Recaros that Honda used in a number of JDM models. Or are you looking at something else? I can't really tell...
Thanks man. I know I don't know enough about them (despite the vast knowledge on here) to really consider myself smart enough to own a 7m. Plus, I'm not...
This. If you plan on keeping the car at 10-15psi, a car on twins will walk all over a car with a bigger turbo that is way below its efficiency point...
Personally I don't understand going with a BBK and staying with stock wheels... with just a fresh set of Porterfields and machined stock rotors I was able to lock up all 4 wheels from 60mph. BBK is going to give you enough braking strength that you're not going to be able to utilize the braking...
Learn something new every day it seems... I was unaware that Methanol posed much risk until now. Seems I'll have to look into all this a bit better. Where can you even buy Toluene, I've seen Xylene at the paint department of the local hardware stores, but can't say Toluene rings any bells...
