Your evaporator might be freezing up or turning into a block of ice. It happens on my Ford Exploder when I drive on the highway for more than 30 minutes. Try turning off the compressor for about 5 minutes with the fan running and then turn turn it back on and see what happens.

My question is why did it fuse?? Something caused a reaction to fuse those to metals together. Maybe a small leak into the threads? Something was in the housing or on the bolt and threads when you replaced it last. I would use a air compressor and dry out / blow out any antifreeze that drips...
