Well Ford gave up on the 5.0 (302) in 1996 for the newly engineered 4.6 in the Mustangs. Still seeing the old 5.0's mopping the dragstrips and streets with Ford's "newer" motor.

88supraTT....it depends if you want the turbo, manifolds, etc. I don't need all the extra items, so there are sellers that sell just the longblock. If you get the whole ball of wax it is going to cost upwards of $1000 + shipping.

Grim, I would say IJ said it better than myself...."an evolution of what they learned in the M series" The turbo was a late addition to the M series of motors. The 1J was designed for turbos at the onset.

1J is a far superior motor as far as engineering is concerned. The 7M is the last revision of a long successful line of Toyota motors and has stood the test of time. However, compared to the 1J, the engineering is without a doubt antiquated. The 1J appears to be more tolerant to people who...

CK, why did you go standalone? I thought the IJ ECUs were fairly robust and could handle most everthing with a couple of piggy backs.

How do the welds look on the Wasabi? Looks like it is braced pretty good...any weak points that may potentially crack?

Ur right there drunk medic. Called Jay Marks and a new shortblock is 2200 plus 80 freight. Wow... a 2J shortblock is cheaper than a 7M shorblock- who would have figured. Thanks for the tip! And to think I thought medics were losers when I was in the Army :)
