5th gear puts the most torque on the clutch to hold (gearing based) that's why it would slip there. Sounds like a toast clutch to me, the stock clutch doesn't like heat too much...

I was always told the reason diesels' where so noisy was that they keep the tolerances loose... GM tightened em up and they started to not sound like a box of rocks... Supposedly. Banks has been taking diesels pretty damn far with redlines over 6K on the GM engine with large turbos...

damn, they're not too bad price wise... kinda a toss up of what you're running or Enkei RZ-5's... the Enkei's have a nice lip though...
