    Make sure to reinforce it if you do. They tend to sag a bit. I like it in place.

    shortening automatic shifter?

    You could shorten the lever, which is plastic, it has enternals running inside too(wires for O/D and the shifter button) shorten thoes as well, cut the shaft, and I don't see why not.
