Abuse can be neglect too. putting in a place with bad air circulation. or lettings the back get too dusty so the fan can't move air as well. or other things like that. Everyone I know with an original PS2 still uses them with no problems.

you probably just abused it a bit too much over the years :[ My ps2 was from the first run of them way back in the impossible to get days and it works just fine still. Hell, even my NES still works great. I'd bite the bullet and get a new slim one. :dunno:
