close... but the cruise control on/off is on the steering wheel on the 89+ and it's on the dash on the pre-89's.

DON'T put a heavier fuse in there unless you want to damage the wiring or start a fire.
The rest is trial and error. What did you do last? What causes it to pop?
Impeller failure. Never seen it on a stock waterpump with the stamped impeller, but the aftermarket waterpumps with the cast impeller I've seen failures...

You can depin that socket and fix the wiring.
Looks to be the temp sensor on top of the T-stat housing, so you'll have to get one from the right year if you want it off another harness.
