if you're ever seen some of the cages they put in crazy Mercedes or BMW's, they pad it, then wrap it with leather and stitch it up. Looks nuts...
To be honest, as long as the axle shafts are balanced, they'll be fine as he did penetration welding.
Now the driveshaft, hubs, ect.... Or how about the rear shocks that are at an extreme angle and aren't going to do jack?
Valve seals are absolutely necessary.
Pressure and leak testing is required. Cleaning it all and removing carbon is important, and usually relapping the valves in.
There are some cheap springs for our cars as well, I'm sure Rich remembers (I have em, forgot the brand/part number)...
