10 reason MK3 Supras are garbage

Actually that last point hits pretty close to home. I have a huge list of things that were going really well until I started to get frustrated, and then did something that I shouldn't have. A friend of mine has made it his personal mission when he's helping me to stand in front of me and tell...

10 reason MK3 Supras are garbage

Good. Then I have a fighting shot at it. :D

    ABS options

Personally, I'm not fond of the ABS delete, but if it doesn't work, then it's understandable, and loses a few lbs where the car could really stand to anyway. I didn't think that the area there was particularly cramped. I'd keep looking for a way to squeeze stuff around. Currently though, I...

10 reason MK3 Supras are garbage

Well said. I'm not sure which group I'm in. Certainly I spent a long time in (mostly) the very first group. I bought an NA MA70 in 1996 with low mileage. Put basic maintenance into it, and drove it for a very long time and a LOT of miles without much except basic maintenance. Certainly long...

    '87 7M-GTE teardown/rebuild.

Block is ready for the shop. The main journals all looked good, except #3, which had a score down the middle of it in the cap bearing. (Block side is grooved, with no apparent damage) I have the front timing cover bolted back on so that it can be machined with the block. Now I have to...

First signs and ways to tell if you have rod knock??

Really? Where? I'd love to pick up one of these to get rid of the AFM.

    DIY Head gasket job possible?

The ARP bolt instruction sheet. 75 is for the stock head bolts.

    lets talk shift knobs

I've got one of those TRD knobs. I like it, it feels good, but yeah, the glue on the TRD logos isn't good, and it's not exactly dessert climate here.

    Ebay Full Silicone Hose Kit

Say this, since I took a look for radiator hoses. I like that it (seems to) come with the hose from the valve cover to the block, as mine isn't in good shape at all. I also like the idea of replacing those two little 90 degree elbows with something stronger and possibly longer lasting. Looking...

    Valve Cover bolts.

Well, 6mm by 1mm thread pitch, 25mm in length. Cap bolts will probably have a 10mm head on them, or a 6mm allen key socket. If the rubber grommets are okay, then a simple washer is probably good enough. Don't over-torque them, it'll leak worse than if it's torqued down appropriately, and you...

    Non Blown Head Gasket Replacement

Exactly the same as replacing a blown head gasket. All of the same work needs to be done, though there should be less damage to repair in the process, so you'll lose less material from the mating surfaces that need to be milled.

    GE-GTE Swap woes

@Backlash: Well, with a '90 chassis, at least you know that the chassis side of things follows the wiring diagram from the online TSRM. Looks like you've got an '89 harness to me. The '89 harness is grey plug, but fits with the '87 and '88 style of things better, EXCEPT for the ABS function...

    '87 7M-GTE teardown/rebuild.

I'll have to take a closer look, and do more reading. I don't want to step into a lot of unnecessary work. If the NPRs are as good as stock, then my power goals are attainable on them, as I would have been happy to keep the stock pistons. If the Probes need additional work, particularly if they...

    '87 7M-GTE teardown/rebuild.

Yeah, for some reason, I thought that I'd need to buy rings separate with the NPR set, making the price difference between the Probes and the NPR somewhat lower. At Driftmotion, the Probes are $425 for pistons, rings and pins, the NPRs are $120 for the same. (I thought that I'd need to also buy...

    Strange question? Timing cover removed?

If you've got pretty anodized or adjustable cam gears, then you can show them off. You can also get a clear timing cover. I suppose that if you have adjustable gears, you could also adjust them easier. Personally, I'm not into the show aspect of the motor, so I'd want to put the cover back on...

N/A non-lsd to LSD differential swap?

3.727/3.909=0.95344 So if your speedo reads 100, you'd be doing a bit over 95. I should point out though that you could ALSO get the appropriate speedo drive gear for the replacement pumpkin, since both sets of drive gears would be available for the R154 or A340e, however the drive gear for...

N/A non-lsd to LSD differential swap?

As hvyman said. Oh, and ANY NA from Canada will have the limited slip. I guess they figured that we need the extra traction up here. I had swapped in a 3.909 from an '87T into my NA before swapping in the engine and transmission. Several years before, in fact. The difference in gearing...

Looking for some advice regarding a rebuild!

I wasn't unhappy with my dealings with SupraStore, but it was a while ago, and I didn't really buy much. Not much to go wrong. Fix the motor that you own. Don'y buy a different used motor which you'll have to do a full build on anyway. That's where I went, but then I only spent $250 on it, and...

    '87 7M-GTE teardown/rebuild.

I believe that there had been a bearing in the #4 rod, but that it was/is most likely a bunch of metal shavings in the oil filter. I've got to say that I'm somewhat concerned about the state of the wrist pins as well. Maybe the Probe pistons will end up happening after all, since they're not...

    '87 7M-GTE teardown/rebuild.

Wow. I am so glad that I didn't even try to just swap in this block. Finally got the pulley bolt off. The pulley bolt holes appear to be rusted up too badly to allow me to actually put a bolt into 'em though, so I haven't actually removed the pulley. Red thread-lock compound is NOT what I'd...
