Basically, I'd replace whatever you don't want to replace when the engine is IN the car. Coolant lines, and other rubber hoses, seem to be the worst for wear in an engine bay, so that would be my personal recommendation. Any pics of the Cresta? Or do you have a Cressida?

Easiest way to change the oil on the 7mGTE I ever found was to go from behind the passenger side motor mount, with an oil filter wrench. Plenty of room behind the mount and under the turbo to play. Try one on a LHD 1jz sometime, I miss my 7m for how easy it was to do the oil. ;)

I prefer the looks of the NB to the early NC, especially when talking hardtops. It's not quite the weight thing that gets me about the NB, it's the fact they're getting dirt cheap, and the catalog of things FM can do to those things is like a track car's wet dream... Hell, I raced an NC once...

VW never killed off the Beetle, just to certain markets. I believe the first and second gen Beetle overlapped production times... and as for the NC MX5, is it as good as the NB? I don't think so, but I'd be hard pressed to say they're any worse. They certainly look better, at least the refreshed...

Fisker... that makes sense. Were they the same company that did the really old Chevrolet's too? And neon taillights? Isn't neon either on or off, with a pretty substantial delay between off and on? Can't imagine how they got that to work... cool though.

Something to giggle about, given the CHP reference, Arizona's highway patrol is "Department of Public Safety", or DPS. CH(i)P's and D(i)PS. I thought it was funny anyway.

Looks to be a group A turbo. The CT26, to my knowledge, is still the biggest turbo put on a factory turbo car. May have been superseded by now though...

If anything, colder ambient temps will increase the chances of fuel cut. Air is a bit more dense at lower temps, therefore the car can stuff more air into the motor without help, so on and so forth... I regularly hit 15-ish psi during the winter with no help other than negative ambient...
