Could be the ABS pump going through it's self test. On manuals that happens right away but on autos it may wait until the car is taken out of P or N. I say that because the NSW is connected to the ABS computer but I dunno for sure. Either way if that's what it is it's not a good sign he can hear it.
Those are both fine machines and will do the job. Since I'm partial to Thermal Arc inverters I'd go with the recently discontinued 185TSW if you can find one. When it came out a few years ago it was easily the best bang for the buck among inverters. In addition to the normal stuff (wave balance...
The sticker for my 87T shows:
MSRP: $23,810.00
Power driver's seat: $210.00
ABS: $900.00
Carpeted floor mats: $72.00
Freight and handling: $225.00
Total: $25,217.00
Not what I paid of course but those are the numbers.
The problem with used coils is most of them have been subjected to open circuit firings by people who don't know any better. That makes them a crap shoot and a bad value.
I don't know exactly how you have it wired but if you're limiting the current through the led to 20 ma and have it in series with the coil that's not going be enough for the relay. Doesn't matter. The IR is good.
I use a needle probe similar to a straight dental pick to unlatch those types of pins. No doubt there's a proper extraction tool for them but I don't have any info on it.
Just bring a ground to 5 and 7 and see if the relays energize/red leds come on. If they do the IR is OK and any problems...
Can't help you on the price Frank but the strange reason is very likely O3, which is a potent oxidizer. It's generated by corona discharge caused by the ionization of O2 when arcing occurs across connections in high voltage systems exposed to air. A fairly common problem actually. Probably more...
Brings back memories. Watching them prep it then later crusin' the PCH targa off on a warm June evening with 20 miles on the clock, inhaling that new car smell mingled with the sea and a cutie I'd met that afternoon who was clearly smitten with one of us. Never did figure out which. Didn't care...
