I seriously doubt the AFM is your problem. There's a lot of other things more likely to cause stalling and the ECU doesn't use the AFM signal when starting the engine.
I ran a Motor Guard for years as I prefer toilet paper for its depth, cheapness, and availability. Can be messy to change though.
