I know you can get good molding glue at any decent body shop. There is even a particular kind of it, I'm told, that once applied and cured, whatever you stuck together is NOT coming apart. Ever. Might look into something like that, or a step below it anyway... I'm sure 3m is your friend here.
Restore? I'm more a resto-mod kind of guy. It needs a new master cylinder, but it's not a normal one from what I can tell, at least not anymore. Do you have any idea how hard it can be finding parts for things this old? ARRRRRGH! :p
Ideally, I want to make this into something I can drive to...
I would be looking at the wiring, from what I understand, if you have a short anywhere in the line, it will cause havoc throughout the circuit.
Then again, I probably know more about polar bears than I do about wiring troubleshooting, so... take that last bit of advice with a grain of salt.
All, I'd like you to meet Betty, she's new to the family. Wasn't even looking for another car/project, but couldn't say no for $400. Car might actually be a 1948, not 100% certain yet, just picked it up a couple weeks ago.
Plans? Finish the Supra first (about a year, year and a half), then...
I still need to pick your brain on that heat shielding you did there Ian... Looks quite nice, and I suspect there's a good reason you used that much of it.
That's one of the things I am looking forward to on the 46... it has dual horns, a buddy of mine has the same ones on his 50-something Studabaker. Bastards are SO loud, I love em. I would love to install a semi truck air horn on my Supra, but not sure where it would fit... Maybe under the back...
I would say more unless you can fabricate and wire everything yourself. Budget twice what you think, and you'll have extra if you do good. ;)
Speaking of good advice, see that "living with a Supra" thread linked in my signature? Take a read over that thread...
Anyway, welcome to the forum, and...
Noel, I think I see what you're saying here. Would plain weave carbon be an option? That's the pattern of everything else I have, so I'd like to stick with that. I haven't decided on painting it all yet, so I may leave it exposed, and would want to be able to do that if I do go the exposed route.
Never quite understood that myself... if you have an idea for a good engine, it's a good engine. Except for Fords. (KIDDING PEOPLE)
In fact, the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward putting a 1uz or 2j in the 46... They're cheap enough and would make enough power easily, in...
Ouch... Allow me to impart another bit of personal wisdom/experience here then:
Only a fool trusts his means of transportation to a single Supra. Ideally, when owning a Mk3, you will own another vehicle that also runs. JUST... IN... CASE.
If you have a $3000 budget, I would HIGHLY suggest...
