The tires were the right specs... Could have been exposed to some extreme conditions prior possibly. Maybe a manufacturer defect. Damaged through shipping if they came from Japan... Many possibilities...

Don't know if someone has said this, didn't read the whole topic.
But clean the terminals on the control unit! That's quite often the problem, they get dirty and corrode over time, and you get bad connections. Which explains why it would work sometimes, but not always.
