    Since you did a engine swap. check the plug that dropped into the rack, from the engine harness,under the intake manifold. If it is not plunged in your p/s won't work. Can someone help me out. I forgot the name of the thing it plugs into.

    You don't need a new block like David said stock holds 650. Just buy a jdm, refresh it and you should be good to go. You can even use the engine harness and engine brackets from your 1j. All you'll have to do is rewire your injectors. What does a new long block from Toyota cost? What comes with it?

    Could be a vacuum leak somewhere. My throttle body gasket was leaking and it would do the same as you describe. The blow off valve if not recirculated will do the same thing.
