Uhh, spark plugs? No one has suggested this yet, re-gap them, if it doesn't cure it, buy new ones. Then go from there, cheapest solution first.

They seem easy to maintain, Easier than 5 dogs, and prolly cheaper. It seems its preferred to get a pair(male/female) cause they are very social animals.
