I think the vents are to get the engine heat away from the coils. Not heat generated by the coils themselves.

If you are sure the turbo is blown, do the following: Wire the wastegate wide open. Disconnect the oil feed line and cap the port at the block. No smoke, no boost, no problem.

That smoke is oil. That oil is going out your exhaust instead of staying in the motor doing it's job. What do you think?
