6m is 3.0l with 2 valves per cyl right?
same stroke as 7m 91mm, 83mm piston, but older head.
How do I contact mr. "russ"? :biglaugh:
Or tell him about this thread, and tell him we want pics of the monster 5m!
Cool, lots of good info so far!
How about a set of custom 5m cams with stock size valves and a mild port and polish?
hmmmm, I guess that makes it too complicated and expensive at that point to use the 5m head, since the 7m head can flow more then I need for the hp goal, and the Crower...
The best thing to do is to pull the motor out. That is definitely not the easiest, cheapest, or fastest way to do it. If you leave it in the car then just clean the deck with a razor blade and some carb cleaner, but don't get a bunch of old hg stuff in the oil and coolant passages.
I'm sure you are right, and we don't want a "7m vs 1j" type thing here, but if it would be very close in performance then that would justify it to me.
I'm totally with you on that!
How about if it had oversized valves in the 5m head? Do you think that would help much? If I used my .029" over 7m pistons with the 5m crank and 7m head it would proably be around 2.85L, not too much lost.
I just picked a 5m longblock today! Thanks Dan
It had rod knock suddenly at startup one morning and was only driven a very short distance after that. I'm hoping that the crank and rods are ok.
I have been pondering a destroked 7m for a good long while now :naughty:
After...
My grandpa started teaching me how to use tools correctly when I was old enough to hold them. :biglaugh: Working on cars was second nature by the time I was old enough to own one.
I think I may have a much less expensive option:

$14 shipped. A lot of the european vehicles use a 2 wire pwm iac like this...
The question of "should I surface the deck for a new hg?" is like:
::dead horse::
There will always be people who say to do it right, and other people who say you should cut corners to try to save money.
So my jumper harness is working with no codes! I also wired the abs and oil pressure sensor in so if you have the 7m sender in there the gauge and abs should work.
Are those mechinic frends willing to do the whole job over again for free when you take their advice and it blows?
I'm just offering some friendly advice, it's ultimately your decision to make.
If the power cuts out completely then the battery is dead or the cables are loose. Is the alternator charging the battery when it is running? Did you check with a volt meter that the voltage rises when it is running? If not, you probably killed it with all the starting and running the engine.
It would be possible, but only part of the control arm is unsprung weight, and the majority of the weight of the lower arm is inboard of the center. If you made it out of chromoly tubing, by the time you had made the brackets for the ball joints and the shock mount reinforced to handle the heavy...
I beg to differ. Most older 7m blocks will have some low spots, especially in the #6 cylinder area. I would surface the deck. The stock hg might conform better to small surface irregularities, but not to low spots in the deck.
I know you specified "straight and clean", but that would be the...
Most of the load is on the lower control arm, it needs to be much stronger then the upper arm. The weight of the front of the car is held up by the lower arms.
Hello from California!
His first post and he already filled out his bio, said hi, has a cool sig, and gave some good info about his car and his plans!
+1 to you!
