Thats what I normally have to do (I use ~1.5in concrete squares though), which is why I say go as low as you possibly can to anyone looking to buy a new jack. :)
I don't know if you will ever be able to prove if they did do anything... whether or not they actually did. Worst you can probably do to them is never go back.

My recommendation is to get one with the absolute lowest minimum height, so that you can actually fit it under the front subframe where it belongs. Craftsman does not offer anything thats low enough for my taste.
