NEVER run on the street without a thermostat !! Period !!! WHY ??? YOU ASK???
Fact:
#1...The thermo slows the flow of water down enough to allow it to cool in the radiator. It won't cool down sufficiently if it 'zips' thru the radiator.
#2...You need at least 160* coolant temp for...
Check that there is no exhaust leak at the EGR cooler on the back of the head. Also, the exhaust manifold could be slightly warped, thus not seating 'flat' on the head. Just had to send one out to the machine shop for a resurface. Went back on real nice, and no more problem.
Also, when I was...
Totally !!! Dude !! I have experienced the same thing 2x. The set of tires that came on it were a harder compound. They held the corners fair, but lasted 20k miles.
I went to some Kuhmos Performance tires, with a softer compound. They wore out in 10k miles, but they stick like glue. At...
I did a lot of looking on the net, and came up with this (reasonable cost) set up.
2.5" pipe from cat back to muffler with least amount of bends as possible. Magnaflow 14" long, 4" high, 9" wide aluminized steel. (check their website out). Center out, offset in. It was WAY TO LOUD ...
One of the best 'tools' you can get is a mechanics stethoscope. With the car wheel off the ground, spin it up as fast as you can (a pair of helping hands are nice) and use the 'ears' to listen for unusal bearing noise. Then check the other side. They should sound about the same.
This tool...

OK, people. Toyota (and other cars too) had a problem in the 80's with what is called "a hard start problem after sitting for a couple of hours" (actually I can't remember the real name).
Main cause: the intake valves have built up carbon deposits on the back sides. When the car sits (off)...
Check a parts store for a recommended name brand flush. Follow thw directions on the can/bottle. Then flush out the radiator in reverse (use a rag on the end of a water hose and stick it into the bottom opening in the radiator. Have the top hose off, then run the water to "back-flush the...
I don't remember now, but I followed all the instructions carefully, and consulted with the MSD tech folks, but could not get it to stop (occasion) jumping on the tach.
It runs so good now that I'll just leave it stock.
Has anyone out there installed an MSD Ignition Box on their MKiii N/A???
I hooked one up 2 years ago. I had to use an adaptor for the Tach/injectors to function properly. It works by making the plugs fire 15x instead of once on each power stroke. It will insure that ALL the fuel is burned...
