I don't believe it's as cut and dry as that. Many people end up using a machine/race shop to do their machine work, not knowing if it is to the proper spec. According to Reg, it seems this will be worse than leaving it alone (provided that it is flat).
As far as the poll having no value, I...
Even if it was misdiagnosed, it doesn't change the preparation method. This poll is to measure the success rate of different options, not just the rate of head gasket failure. If you opened up the engine and found the head gasket was not blown, you either put in a new one, or not. The answer...
Hey, thanks for the response.
I was thinking about going with the maft pro. Even if it is a tad overkill, it seems like if I go with 550's and Lex AFM I will end up running a bit rich. While that is safe, I want my car to run as nicely as possible. I might as well do these things sooner...
Yeah, this is not my first. Just my first attempt at repairing something like this on my own. I thought it would be a great learning experience (which it is) and that it might save me a few bucks (which it isn't, and quite frankly if all goes wrong, I have nobody to blame but myself, lol...
Trying to figure out what "right" is. It seems there are different opinions. The article I linked should explain why the question came up. I trust Reg's opinion quite a bit more than most.
I am also weighing risk/reward based on my options.
I am currently planning on doing a composite...
I really like the first one, and I think if you look at the picture, you can tell the luster will be a bit different.
I was kidding with the last one...:icon_razz
I think this is the best - wow! that color looks great. It looks like the original color has a bit more metallic appearance, so it should look even cooler in real life.
A little more green in case your lcd sucks:
A little closer to silver:
And what you really should do:
The only "mod" for a 7m is that there is a threaded hole in radiator for a 1j temperature sensor that you must put a bolt in (preferably with some loctite or something). I can get you the exact size in the morning.
EDIT: you need a 16mm x 1.5 drain plug
Yeah, I am doing my HG as preventative maintenance (have 80k on the car). No signs that it had blown, and everything seemed pretty tight. I think I got really lucky that I decided to do it, it was definitely not looking good in there.
Lol, I can certainly add it, if you tell me how...
I am trying to gain perspective on how preparation affects the used components. It would be interesting to know how many are doing good w/o HG repair, though.
I posted this link in my build thread, but I think it is relevant here as well...
No threats, lol - just trying to get an accurate picture. I know it's very generic b/c it doesn't take into account mods, but I think it will still be useful.
I would ask that if you post a "problem" result and don't mind sharing, that would be nice.
If you answer machined block and...

Lol, the whole turbo experience without all that pesky power...
Well, it's good to know of a place I can bring my car for any other repairs I might need (and don't have the time for).
On the one hand, IF I can get everything back together OK, I will be happy I did this myself (albeit with some help) I feel I have learned a lot tearing this down. On the...
