You don't need BC springs/retainers if you're running BC 264's They only recommend it if you go above 264's. If you don't mind me asking, what's wrong with BC?
Now if you are going to go upgraded springs I believe you should use the appropriate retainers to go with it...I would but that's IMO.

I've been wanting to try it but don't really have time. It would probably depend on if you want something for a standalone and don't want all the cruise control and other things you don't really need in the stock harness or do you want a completely new stock harness.
