No. I've personally done it. Had the engine into the firewall. Can't get the pan out. Wish I didn't have to drop the frame, but its only 6 bolts IIRC, don't have to go as far as the TSRM says, but farther than what the Haynes said.

How do you possibly know that? Second, that means exhaust gasses are getting into your coolant, or your system needs to be burped, which could explain you over heating also. Compression test, and the exhaust gas tester. New oil as in the PO just changed it? Are you loosing coolant?

Make sure the pan flange is true, and clean the mating surfaces with brake clean. FIPG or equivalent.
