Rears: I've heard of 275's in the back, while the wheel is on a mkiv chassis. But I don't think you can go with anything wider than 255 on the mkiii (rear) chassis, on mkiv TT wheels. In my personal experiennce, there's not enough clearance with the rear shocks for anything wider than 255...

I vote for alternator going bad, or a ground wire somewhere is loose. That's what I'd check for first.

I love my auto TT. When i went mkiv shopping, I wanted the 6 speed car, just like everybody else. Test drove a bpu auto, and i was hooked. Today, my car still is a kick to drive, and i don't regret my decision one bit. And yeah, the r154 swap will get you 5 manual gears and save you a few grand...
