its pretty well known the rods are definitley not the weak point of our engines...its the pistons... i wouldnt be surprised to see some shot peened rods hold over 650hp all day every day....

check the o2 sensor wires...if they melt together or onto something that tends to cause efi problems

two things... FYI: map ecu 2 HAS TIMING CONTROL. (if you need a good 87-88 turbo 5spd ecu i have one ..not sure what year harness you are running) and secondly...a 12 offset? does that bitch even fit? lol
