The air that passed the afm has already been metered. So when it blows out the intake through the bov, the car now runs real rich. Now the HCs go way up. Granted, its only for an instant, but thats California. The legislators make the poor car owners (who don't give the legislators money to...
For smog inspection, just keep a copy of the EO that you can print out in PDF from the CARB site in your glove box. It has the EO number and EO document. The state referee will accept it and so should anyone else.
Some of the intercooler kits come with partial hard pipes. My Spearco came with...
The bov has to have an EO. Its a functioning part of the intake system. No cool aftermarket bov will pass California emissions unless it was a full kit that plumbed back into the intake like the stock one. The mfg would have to make a full kit with the hard pipes. No one is going to do it...
I thought there was only one way to install the cap. I haven't had an NA in such a long time I don't remember.
You could align the motor to TDC
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/ig/IG_17.html
Then align the #1 wire on the cap with the rotor.
At TDC the rotor probably is clocked as...
The last time I checked for EOs (Executive Order) I didn't see any hard pipes. So technically if you take it to a smog station, they could fail you and you couldn't prove they were OK. You could try to pass them as OEM equivalents. The upper hard pipes and the bov would be the problem. The...
You can do either.
The ignition is the major difference with going from the 7MGE to full 7MGTE. You can also just do the turbo part of the conversion (NA>1/2T). Search the site. There has been many discussions on the subject.
Personally, I did the full conversion. Its a lot more involved and...
I'm close by you. I got by 7MGE rebuilt to a 7MGTE by Toysport in Gardena at least 6 years ago. I'm neutral about their work. I couldn't really recommend them because the workmanship could be a lot better. They do specialize in Toyotas, but not any specific kind.
I've been looking at XS...
My Purlator fuel filter didn't have a problem on the banjo side. The flare side didn't stop leaking. I finally got it to seal. But there is not way the nuts coming off.
I didn't know you can cryogenic treat aluminum?
Because cryogenic treatment is very commonly done on brake discs, are you going to do friction coef. testing?
I use K & N FIPK (or something like that), no problems. They do say that the oil can cause problems getting into the intake and clogging the AFM. If I had to do it now, I'd just get a generic K & N cone filter with an adapter and save abouit $100. Also I wouldn't get the cleaning kit since K...
Never tried EBC.
I'm real easy on brakes. They last over 100k miles easily.
My wife's hard on brakes. I usually use metalic pads. But since the carbon ones are so affordable these days, I thought I'd try them out.
I got cryo'd discs and custom Porterfield R4S pads for my wife's VW. It ran...
If you have certain high pressure gas struts and the car is not on a perfectly even and level pavement, the car won't sit even. These are the high pressure ones, I think they were KYBs. My brother had purchased them for his Mustang. The car would only sit even on flat level ground.
You could also buy aircraft aluminum 2024T3, 6061T6, or even thin wall stainless steel tubing. I'm a little leary of using tubing on my brakes that is so soft it comes coiled up. I was thinking about using the coiled stuff one time but decided that I would feel good about using it.
You'll...
I've used metalmaster (I think that was the name) semi-metalic pads before on my Mustang. They were wouldn't stop the car when cold. When they warmed up, they were OK.
Supra5MGTE, what didn't you like about the ceramics? I'm considering using them on my wife's VW Passat. The rear brakes only...
Porterfield carbon/kevlar pads. They are suppose to feel like OEM brake pads but have higher performance than OEM. I have heard from a Toyota engineer that the carbon pads are noisy, at least the TRD ones.
You can also go to ceramic pads. The cermic pads are suppose to last a long time and...
