You will need to use Helicoil. They are actually stronger than non-helicoiled threads.

You will find that there are more Upgrades and spare parts laying around for the 2JZ compared to the 1JZ. The initial outlay will be less for the 1jz but when you start looking for go fast parts the 2JZ starts to win. typically engine ecu harness + tranny will go 1jz $1500- $2000, 2jz...

CC for CC the 1JZ is as strong as the 2JZ so 500 HP will not be a problem. Just dont boost above 23 PSI on stock HG. The number I hear most is about 6-700 HP on stock internals. You will of course hace to upgrade fuel and air delivery and exhaust to see 500.
