me and buddies have done this several times. working at a hardware store lets us collect all sorts of scrap and sell it. brass, aluminum, copper, steel, we've checked with them about this.
wish i had pics of mine. i broke the shifter into two, sawzall'd the stock threads off of the shifter and welded them back on to the shorter part (after taking some metal off of the shorter one). works exactly like stock
just make sure you go slow and keep an eye on everything. and keep all feet/fingers out of the way of the engine when it falls. guy i know has 'allison' stamped into his back when the trans hoist's hydraulics gave out under the semi and the tranny fell on him. crushed damn near every vertebrae...
i got about 1/3 way through and got tired of reading it, went to youtube and looked for the crash, saw the crash and didn't feel the need to read anymore. looks like ill be using condition n tubing if i ever need to.
