Clipped exhaust wheel will cause a bit more lag, so the low end torque won't be as high...but your max torque peak should be just as good.

The later 91/92 coolers are better as well. You definately want a cooler though if you want consistant steering performance (and of course far less wear).
The crack in the head is pretty interesting as it looks like it might be from the valve seat. The damage around the headbolt holes in the head is odd as well...
